    From Honda:
"The VFR come equipped with the theft-deterring security of the Honda
Ignition Security System (HISS), which completely disables the engine at the
heart of its computerised ignition system and won't allow it to be started
by any other than the individual motorcycle's assigned keys, thus
effectively reducing the possibility of ride-away theft and persuading
    joyriders to look elsewhere."

For insurance purposes, is this an immobiliser?

    Ask your insurance company.
They would usually already factor that into calculating the premium on the
    bike.

    So I'm thinking, no.

If it's not an immobilizer what is it? Of course it is an immobilizer
for insurance purposes. I'm sure they take it into consideration when
    calculating the premium.

i just thought that there could be the off-chance that someone in this
newsgroup may ride a motorcycle made by the biggest motorcylce company in
the world, and that they may just know the answer. that's all.

It is an immobiliser no doubt. I'm under the impression they're asking for
    aftermarket.

Greatly depends on the insurer. Make a few phone calls to various insurance
companies and ask them the question.

    Cheers,

I've owned 3 bikes with HISS and when I've insured them I've never been
under any impression that the question on the insurance proposal "Is the
bike fitted with an immobiliser?" made any distinctions or assumptions
about whether it was factory fitted or an after market unit.

OK, competition time (without any prizes). S.P.I.T. stands for.........

Extra points for doing the same for H.I.S.S. to tie in with S.P.I.T.

    :)

    Cheers,
    Dale.

If I remember correctly, this thread started out about immobilisers,
    built in or not.

This morning, while doing the weekly shopping, a guy that I say hello to
gave me a motorcycle immobiliser kit thingy.

I was so surprised that I took it.

Must take it back next Saturday and return it.

Even as a freebie, I neither want nor need such a thing.

    regards,

They *claim * to have balls, they're not attached to their bodes ..
hence having to go to one .. (the plural comes from going to two, not
    having two at once..).
