Just found the remains of a bottle in freezer, must have been in there for
    about 6 months.

    Slurp.

Heh, clearing out the garage (boy did it need it) last week and I found a
bottle of Newcastle Brown behind a box of odd footrests and indicators etc.
I thought about piling straight in there but instinct made me look at the
    consume by date ...... 1999.
I don't think I'll risk it. The top half of the contents looked OK, the
green sediment at the bottom looked as if it could have given a rhino on an
    "all bran" diet the squits.

Serious question though.... following on from Dan's post.
If you've corked a bottle of red, then sealed it with a stopper - what's the
general length of time you can still drink it / cook with it ?

I reckon on about 2 days (I leave the cork out, rather than re-stoppering)
for it still to be drinkable. I find that on the next day after opening it
tastes better than when first opened, but on the second (on the rare
occasion it's lasted that long) it's passable, but only just.

    As for cooking, no idea.

I usually give it a week, maybe two for drinking. Three to four for
cooking. After that, it's good for pint thinning, degreasing or
    squirting your neighbour's rat.
