This weekend's bike reassembly didn't quite go according to plan.

First, K's stepmother was taken ill, so I had to look after T as K
made support visits to the hospital. Not a huge deal, as it turned
    out.

Then, on reassembling the timing gears, I found that the timing wheel
for the ingnition & FI, which is located with the same peg as the cam
sprocket, has two diametrically-opposed holes and no alignment marks.
I hadn't noticed when I took it apart. So, after much swearing,
staring at exploded diagrams and flipping through manuals, I finally
found a couple of photos that showed it with the reference gap
low-left when the camshaft timing marks are aligned. No reference
    whatsoever in the text, mind.

The next problem was the conrods: I had a full set of half-shells and
brand-new bolts. Or so I thought. When I first saw them on Wednesday
they did look a bit odd: I didn't recall then being socket-headed
bolts. They're not. Speedaway have sent me a set of oil pump bolts.

So the engine isn't in the frame today after all.

Does it ever? You've read Dodger's fettling posts, haven't you?
Never makes life easy, that sort of thing.
I've had that sort of thing happen. When it seems like the most
obvious thing in the world to get caught out by, nobody else seems to
have found it. Then when you do get that blinding flash of inspiration
that leads to the obvious solution - there's still the element of
    finger-crossing required on start-up.
Don't you just hate it when that happens? Incompetent or slapdash
suppliers, that's all you bloody need at a time like that. Good job
    you have alternative transport, eh?
Probably best. Best to go for a beer and let all the stress drain away.
