Well done, and "thank you" to all five of you.

So does the CB13, and that's been no further than Sainsbury's.

I've done some daft things but in comparison I'm Div 4.

Looking forward to the write up

All this off-road practice means you'll be better than me when we go
back to Wales, rather than just as shit as me.

    Bah. Fresh meat required.

Which I have no intention of doing. Playing silly buggers and riding on
    alone
wasn't an option. Whilst I was angry (it was the sudden nature of the
    decision
and the proximity of the goal which got to me) with the benefit of
    hindsight,
I wasn't suffering with the cold as badly and was comfortable riding on the
rough heavily rutted ice, but I was in a minority and we were a team. End
    of.

We didn't make our goals but it was a supreme education.

A great team and fantastic company - the best biking I've ever done and
    I'm already planning the re-run.

  8. It does feel more like an expedition than any bike trip I've been on.

Looking at the mileages, some days we only managed 100km and that was on
    a full, hard, days riding.

I will write this up in some detail because I think it might be useful
    to others in the future.

I'm not sure that anyone's actually managed to do what we attempted.
    Maybe another time...

  9. Well, I got home and actually got on with giving the bike an initial
clean down. Still got some salt on it, it'll get a better wash and
    Tourances tomorrow.

Also uploaded a few photos here:

  10. Completely different. Some of the skills are common but the big mistake
most of us made was weighing the bikes down with too much stuff.

Next time it will be different. Lighter bike, less luggage (no top box,
no cooking kit) er... new tyres, new chain, more studs.

Was it the weight or the distribution that was the problem?

Alex seemed to be at an advantage on the R-GS which would be heavier
overall, but better power to weight ratio I guess. The boxer engine would
lower the c-of-g too, I imagine. Couldn't be the rider, could it?

I did get the impression your kitchen sink approach to packing didn't
really pay off, since accommodation didn't seem to be a problem south of
    the circle.

    ....more spare tyres...

I'd guess you'd aim just for the circle if you did it again - Nordkapp
proper is a fjord too far, so to speak.

  13. The weight mostly.
I don't think it was power or power to weight. In fact the GS would
probably have been a worse bike for me... so I guess I'm agreeing it
was the rider. Alex was happy at a good 20 or so MPH faster than I was
    under most conditions.

  16. Nah. There'd have been more money to be made in busting up the bikes for
    spares.

  18. I reckon the GN250, wiv knobblies, would be up to it. Same time next
    year?

Judging by the pictures you'd probably make more money selling the salt
from the bikes to a local council.
