Any recommendations on particular bits of kit. Seem to be quite a few
    out there.

And is it worth paying more for 200mbps kit over the 85mbps stuff?

Not really what you're asking, but I looked at this just recently and
decided that 100 quid for a pair of plugs (which seemed to be about
the cheapest price) was too much to pay.

Well, I eneded up ordering some devolo aveasy plugs. Agree they're
expensive, but a damn sight cheaper than running cables [1] for a new BT
    extension.

Due to a slight **** up on my part, I forgot (the architect did remind
me) to specify where in the house we wanted phone sockets. That was,
until 3 days after the plastering was all complete. And the sparky had
done all the other wiring, aerials etc.

    [1] chased into walls.

Work beautifully though, and I got totally fed up at trying to keep
    wireless stuff working

    Hmmm.

I thru my piece-of-shit Belkin USB adapter in the bin a week or two
ago, and fitted a Netgear PCI card that *should* be very happy to run
108Mbps with the Netgear router I have. But, it's refused to play
ball several times since, so I might end up going down this route
    anyway.

    Is it really 100% reliable?

    so far, yes (since March).

Of all the wireless stuff I have tried, the Netgear PCI stuff has been
the worst (I bought it when I got fed up with the Netgear USB stuff
    falling over)

What I really don't understand is that the generic wireless kit in my
Acer and Asus have worked perfectly reliably for ages (years in the case
of the Acer), but the branded stuff has always got unreliable after a
while (hours in the case of the Netgear PCI).

If you're giving up on the Homeplugs, and they're the 85Mbps variety, I
might be interested in taking them off your hands at a reasonable price...

I am due to help a mate run some network cables inside walls and across
loft space on Wednesday evening, and he says I can have his old 200s
afterwards. If this happens, I'll have a couple of 85s I was going to
    stick on ebay.

Actually, I only need one more, and it's only for networking the garage,
so I'll let Champ have first dibs if he wants them.

We've fitted a Givi E450 top box and a Bagster expandable tank bag.
We've gone for soft panniers (we like to stay narrow for filtering
purposes) but there are a couple of kits around to fit the new Givi
V35 side cases to the ZZR1400. With that lot I wouldn't have thought
you'd have much less capacity than on the GTR.

You mentioned that in your email, and I meant to respond. You said about
having to take the key out of your pocket to refuel. You do know that
you don't have to, don't you? With the transponder in your pocket you
can turn the "ignition" key to the right most position (can't remember
what it says that is, it's a TLA). You can then take the "ignition" key
out, and use that to open the fuel tank or panniers. My key fob
doohickey stays in my pocket at all times. I really like the system, no
fucking about trying to find the key.

On the way back from Pahnd Island, I couldn't find the fob. But the
ignition came on, so I knew it was in a pocket *somewhere*... :^)
I've not had that. But then, I do ride like a poof.
I do, and I would, IIWY.

For a normal house, cat5 is totally excessive. And it does have coax
running exactly where we want it. Anyhow, if we'd wanted it, we could
have asked for it. Still, as it's a period property, I'd rather not have
gash cat5 junctions/boxes on each wall TYVM.

    Oh, hang on:

    1. Get something that's Homeplug-compatible;

    2. Faster is obviously better: "Speed's just a question of money; how
    fast do you wanna go?"

I think that covers everything, doesn't it?

Worth mentioning that the AV ones don't interwork with the slower ones,
so it might be worth shelling out for the AV ones in the first place as
it'll probably be cheaper in the long run?
