    Hi all.
A quickie question if I may?

Having issues with the neutral indicator light on my Honda CBX750F.

Getting into neutral is OK but the little light doesn't always come on :-(
I'm guessing the neutral indicator light switch is a bit
gunked up as its a pig to get the light to light -
and without that lit the bike thinks its in gear so you have to pull the
clutch to start etc... I'm guessing if I can remove the switch and clean
it up it will be OK. But, it sits behind the front sprocket cover.

Here's a pic of the offending area:

I think the neutral switch is around when the number 4 is?
As you can see from the photo, it looks like clutch fluid has seeped out and
    brought the black paint off.
Can I assume if I undid bolts 1, 2 and 3 all the clutch fluid would pour
    out?
I do have a workshop manual but the photos are terrible and the description
very vague to say the least! I don't have a Haynes manual.

    Basically, I want to
    o) clean the neutral switch so it hopefully works better
    o) Stop the fluid weeping (not sure if it is still is weeping to be honest -
    but I
want to sort it so it looks better)

This may all be basic stuff once you know the answer!

    Cheers and many thanks

    Peter

    Yup

But, it sits behind the front sprocket cover.
It's usually near the gear shaft, yes. Duinno where it is exactly on
    this bike.

No. You'd just release the slave cylinder from its housing.
I can't see any evidence of a leak, and it's behind the cover, so who
cares if it looks a bit bare?

Ah, awesome. many thanks. Hopefully will do that then soon!!
Only that the paint is coming /come off on the front sprocket cover hence I
thought it was the result of a small leak.
I can't see a leak now to be fair so maybe its just from some mishap in the
    past?

    Its only vanity :)

Cheers and many thanks, much appreciated.

Well, to be exact, you'll remove the slave cylinder housing from the
crankcase. Don't squeeze the clutch lever while it's unbolted or the
piston may pop out and then you definitely will have fluid everywhere.

Hmm. You say that, and I lived with it on the Bandit for over a year,
but it meant that I coudn't start it to warm it while on the side stand
    - had to be centre stand or sit astride with the sidestand up. I'd
already disconnected the clutch switch as that was a royal PITA when the
choke cable let go and I had to apply and hold the choke manually -
providing two left hands is beyond me.

The MoT tester made mention of it too, so I believe it to be a 'minor'.
Visual confirmation of netrality is useful, though, and I will be fixing
it when I rebuild the box.

The Ural has a different take on this aspect, as one might expect:
random neutral light. In gear, out of gear, it lights when it feels
like it - although, strangely, rarely when the box actually is in
    neutral.

    Quickie update.

Stripped the offending switch out - cleaned, lubricated etc and reassembled.
All went pretty well so many thanks for the advice and help.
I also renewed the clutch fluid (a mate helped coz I didn't have a bleeding
tube!! we then played with a cool outboard stuffed in a big barrel - ace
    fun!)

Today was the first chance I've had to test it and it does seem better
though its early days. The clutch feels better for new fluid too.
I've no idea if a neutral indicator light switch is a standard item from
model to model but we'll see how it goes and if it needs renewing, sort it
    then.

So, many thanks for helping out, much appreciated.

ps - still need a rear carrier/rack if anyone has one gathering dust in
    their garage/shed. Beer tokens await.....

    Cheers

  8. I've seen identical units used on different bikes, so I'd be very
surprised if yours is unique to the CBX750.

    That's what I figured but wasn't 100% sure.
Fingers crossed it will be OK but you just never know.......

    Cheers
