Honda RFVC Cam and Head problems.

I heard alot of problems with the CAM's and HEAD's of Honda RFVC engines
(sounds alot like problems Honda had with the early V4 engines 83 to
    86).

What is the difference between a RFVC and standard Honda engine?

I heard honda went back to the standard design after years of problems
    with the RFVC engines?

What years and engines sizes were RFVC (250, 350, 500 and 600)?

What should someone look for when buying a used RFVC engine?

Can anything be done to help the problems with the CAM's and HEAD's of
    Honda RFVC engines?

Anyother problems besides Cam and Head problems?

What about the RFVC engine used in the 1987 Honda CBX 250
(does it have the same problems as the XLs)?

  2. I had a CBX250 with the RFVC engine - great little 4 valve single. If I
understand correctly, earlier RFVCs had a problem with head cracking
around one of the exhaust valves - but I've read that this was fixed by
the time the CBX was released.

My understanding of RFVC (Radial Four Valve Combustion) and the
difference to the standard 4-valve of the day was the fact that the
valves were angled radially around the bore.

Imagine sitting the valves on 4 "corners" of a tennis ball (I know that
tennis balls don't have corners, but i couldn't think of a better way
to describe it) so they each point away from the centre of the bore in
a sort of 45 degree angle.

Most other 4 valves have the 2 inlet and 2 exhaust valves mounted
parallel to each other, more vertically. I had an XR250 (84) with RFVC.
I cracked the head between the 2 exhaust valves.

that was the twin carb models

not enough meat in the head

solved by going to the single carb in later modes
