    Honda SGX50 Sky:
    Hi all

Has anyone ever worked on one of these toys. My daughter has one and it
recently went into the shop to have a new drive belt fitted. They told her
the clutch roller bearings were a quarter worn. Why they couldn't have
checked with her while they had the engine covers off and done the job then
is beyond me. Money in the bank I suppose. Anyway, my question is, do I
need any special tools to remove the clutch. We may as well fit new rollers
and the clutch friction discs while at it. trouble is I live 70 miles away
so don't want to be messing about going back and forth for tools!

Also, Haynes don't seem to do a model specific manual. is the Haynes moped
    manual worth getting?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Ermmmm...

Doesn't this mean that the shop said they were three quarters unworn?

Would you replace your tyres when they were a quarter of the way through
    their life?

Which was exactly my first reaction when she told me. However she is a
woman, she's panicking and giving me earache. It's easier to just change
the bloody things for a quiet life!

Extract £25 from her "for parts". Ride it "to a mate's who has the tools"
that just happens to live in a pub. Spend £25 on a couple of pints and a
steak dinner. Ride it home "fixed".

I bet they're not talking about the roller bearings. They may well be
talking about the rollers, these are service items and should really
have been replaced with the belt. The rollers usually have a minimum
worn diameter which will be specified in the manual. Although you'd
usually replace them when they wear 'a bit flat'.

You have to be a bit careful when stripping and rebuilding the belt /
clutch / variator on an automatic. The strength of the swing arm depends
on the case bolts being torqued correctly, also there the belt can only
be fitted one way round... and there is an order you have to do things
in or the front pulley nut comes undone after you've got it back
    together and running.

Getting the haynes moped manual will tell you about all of these things.

    :)

Simes - when rollers wear they wear unevenly and make the clutch
engagement very erratic, which in turn gives the belt a hard time. A
quarter worn isn't too bad for now, but they'll need doing very soon or
the clutch will be come impossible to live with
