What does the group think of using nylon for handlebar risers, I was
thinking that it is cheap as there are plenty of old chopping boards around,
easy to work with but would it compress too much and let the bolts come
    loose or not.

Why do you want plastic handlebar risers? I think I've seen enough
split and cracked chopping boards to not want to expose them to
    sunshine.

  3. Oh Theo, there has been a huge revolution in dishwashing technology since
then. If sunshine cracks your board (ooh er) try "Down to Earth".

Indeed. "Down to Earth" recipe for detergent:

    Ingredients:
    1L water
    100g corn flour
    5 drops green vegetable dye.

    Method:
Mix all ingredients together - add extra corn flour if thicker detergent is
required (aka "Down to Earth Truckwash"). Done.

Now amaze all your friends as you slowly die of salmonella poisoning - but
hey, that rare fungus living inside your sewer is safe from nasty alkaline
    detergents that actually clean stuff!

  5. Ahh - so you certainly shouldn't use chopping boards for risers if you
    have daylight savings?

    :)

    I got a better idea
Tape 2 sticks on the bars facing upwards.
    Instant handlebar risers.

Just make them from aluminium. I fitted a set on the weekend, total
cost $4.05. Longer bolt $2, (the other bolt was secondhand and
therefore free), solid aluminium bar 150mm long 25mm dia. $2.05. Of
course it helps when the machining is free. This was for "normal"
handlebars, dunno how you do it with clipons.

    Cheers,

    A. they are not clip ons as the bar bolts directly to the upper triple clamp
and the packing sits under them.
    B. The nylon I am talking about is the some as used for bearings in trailer
    sespensions,
    C. Nylon chopping board does not crack.
    D. It may compress
    E. Bloody easy to machine by hand.
    F. Have used some material for Radio antennas and it is strong as shit.
