Just got a 2004 R6 and I'm slightly concerned about how hot the exhaust on
this thing seems to get. Alright so it's an exhaust and they should get
hot, but this thing goes beyond hot and into the relms of being able to fry
breakfast on it. My previous bikes never got that hot, is there something
    superheated about the R6?

Most exhausts will get up to egg-frying heat, and beyond, very quickly
indeed. Many's the biker who proudly (or otherwise) bears the burn
scars caused by injudicious timing of chain adjustments, tyre
    inflations or just downright clumsiness.

You've _still_ not discovered Gore-Tex then?

In which case I humbly suggest to sir that sir has been sadly mislead
in his choice of gloves. Why so many motorcyclists put up with kit
that "eventually leaks" I'll never know. It doesn't have to be that
    way.

Gore-Tex ones. Get thee to a decent outdoor/mountaineering shop.

I have pondered this vexed question, specifically wrt Pathans as mine
stayed dry for up to a couple of hours continuous and then seemed to
let in. After intensive questioning, they revealed that it is not the
waterproof membrane at fault at all, but the lack of wrist seal.

My sooper GoreTex HG jacket doesn't have sleeve width adequate for
Pathan cuffs, so they have to go on the outside. Rain eventually
seeks its way in, running off the GoreTex as it will and makes its way
against gravity and the wind of passage into my gloves.

Ripping the wrist strap _really, really_ fucking tight seems to
prevent any further ingress. In any case, as they insulate well,
there would be an initial chill feeling, but after a few hours the
gloves act much like a winter wetsuit and my pinkies benefit from a
layer of warm water around them.

Absolute bastard the next morning of course, and a **** to dry out -
three days in the airing cupboard bad.

Over a period of a couple of hours your sweaty palms would have
contributed as well. These gloves are designed to let water out, which
can be a bit of a problem if the outside is all pissing wet.

    Andrewr At Work says...
5 hours of absolutely pissing rain on my trips to Scotland couldn't make
my Pathans leak. I tuck mine inside the sleeves of my jacket and they
stay dry, but they do lose their warmth after 3 hours solid riding in
extreme cold. You must have a duff pair.

Bugger, if only I was that lucky. If I may ask, how long have you had
them and how often do you use them? I just thrown my pair away because
in pissing down rain they are soaked in about 5-10mins. I fondly
rmemeber the days when they kept my hands nice and dry.

Now I'm in the market again for some rain gloves, as I aim to get me
some Widder lectric gloves for this winter (in France). In London I just
about survived without 'em, but bloody hell, it gets cold here in the
    country side in France!!! <shiver>

I've had my pair about 2 years and they get used whenever it is cold or wet.
Realistically they've done about 10,000 miles.

They are getting worse over time, but for the price I'd have no hesitation
    buying a new pair.

No, you are right. I wouldn't mind another pair either. But I learned
that even in London the 16mile commute to work, these poor hands of mine
can get seriously cold. Now that I tasted the fine world of heated
motorcyle kit, I amd seriously condering a set of gloves to complement
    my heated jacket!

So if I can get my hands on just a nice set of "thin-ish" rain gloves, I
    would be happy ;o)
