How long before a bettery goes flat ?

    see a bike which actually charges at idle. Maybe beemers do.

    True but don't forget the computer which needs the battery connected to
    remember its settings. There is a para in the book about resetting it if the
    battery is disconnected, or goes flat. The solar cell idea is a good way to
    go.

    Make sure your power outlet is 'active' when the ignition is off.

    I got one of the solar chargers for the car, but the lighter is connected
    through the ignition, so until I re-wire it, it will not work.

    You're right. Without all this pesky time travel, the battery
    will last longer. And there's nothing worse than being stuck
    with a flat battery in your time machine, waiting for them to
    invent electricity so you can phone Theo ...
