how long?

Earlier today I collected from the post office a nice little black box
with Power Commander 111 printed on it. How long until the weather
warms up enough for me to want to spend some time in the garage
    fitting it?

The big decision is do I fit it now and map it for the bike as it is
or do I fit the carbon airbox straight away and pay a visit to the
bloke who knows and get those extra horses liberated before summer?

You can never have too much power and I've heard a rumour that
Kawasaki strangled the 10R in the first 3 gears but a bit of tampering
sorts that out in no time at all.

It is warm in my unheated garage, it was a balmy 13 deg C at lunch time

It'd probably be about that temperature in our garage if I shut the
door to block out the wind and put a fan heater out there for an hour
before I started. The problem is that I'm a lazy bastard who didn't
get out of bed until this afternoon and I've got a 260 mile drive
tomorrow afternoon ready for work on Monday so I need excuses to put
    the job off.

I expected better of you, it's not cold today. I spend some time in the
garage today working on the Daytona.

I've read they restrict the opening of the secondary throttle butterflies.
Some people have removed them and some have fitted a TRE which seems to fool
the bike into thinking it's in sixth gear thus keeping the secondaries open.

Quote...."If you remove the air box you'll notice that there's two sets of
throttle blades UPPER & LOWER. The lower ones are completely controlled by
your right wrist. The Upper one are ECU controlled. The ECU sees fit to
limit the amount of throttle you can use at any given time. By simply
removing the Blades ONLY and leaving the rest of the system intact the ECU
thinks it's still doing it's job, but now you're in control of the amount of
throttle being used. It does you no good to open the throttle completely up
with the lower set if BIG BROTHER (ECU) is actually the one that controls
how much air is entering the motor. This system is the first steps in FLY BY
WIRE complete ECU controls. The future will probably NOT be as easy to fool
the ECUs on these things. Our right hand won't control much more than a
desire to speed up. The ECU will have the final word and that probably won't
be what we want when we want it. (BE CAREFUL NOT TO DROP ANY OF THE SCREWS
    WHEN YOU DO THIS!!!!!!!!) "

I'm still fumbling my way around the 10R power thing.

It will be interesting to see what your bike makes after the mods.

NB: This is what I've read and I have no proof that it works or not.

Sounds identical to the one I was already thinking of. Has Keef got
his new toy yet because my airbox is identical to the one fitted in
his and I was going to bribe him to let me post the box to him and
then fit it in his garage before Slick gets loose on it or I spend
ages in Slicks workshop fitting it before he does the important bits.

I reckon letting Keef have a lap on mine after fettling will be enough
to sway his decision making process and Janice is easily bought with
    flowers and groveling.

The secondary butterflies are going, end of story. I've got a TRE
lying around somewhere that needs splicing in but apparently the PC
    does enough without it.

I'd already been told to bin them when I fit the airbox but Slick's
the bloke to give the details. Someone else we know has a full
superbike spec 10R prepared by Slick and part of ,y plan is to pull
his bike apart and see what's what iyswim.

    snip>
I want 170+ at the back wheel on Slicks dyno. He reckons it's
achievable without engine work so why not do it?

  9. Champ, a couple of questions if I may.

Do you know if the ignition is retarded in the first three gears like
the GSXR1000 or is it just a secondary throttle thing.

Who are the best people to get the front forks sorted on the ZX10R?

    Thanks.

  10. What plans have you got to match the suspension to the 170BHP?

The suspension is fine once you go away from the standard settings.
I've got a decent damper on it and I don't use cheap tyres.

  12. OK, I thought you still had the STD shock. What did you fit?

Where did I say I'd changed the shock? Change the settings, that's
all. There'd be no point in me telling you how my bike is set up
because you probably weigh a bit more than me and the one thing I've
always bitched about with the bike is the suspension being a bit of a
    **** to get right.

I just took the bike to a stretch of road I know very well and kept
playing with one thing at a time until the bike felt ok for me. It's
probably still well short of what someone with a clue could do to it
but as long as I can ride it then I really don't feel the urge to
    tamper with it again.

  15. That's why I asked. I didn't hear you say you changed the shock, so I
didn't know you hadn't. Have fun, The sun is out, I'm going for a bimble...

    Bloody hell, that's serious power.

Akrapovic website are showing 163.9 at the back wheel for the stock 06 and
165.4 with their end can fitted.
    http://www.akrapovic-exhaust.com/main/catalog/products-catalog.htm

The 05 is showing 158.4 in stock form and 161.8 with their end can. I can't
find a chart with the butterflies removed though.
