My KBC VR-1 needs a new silver/chrome visor as the other one is
    fucked..

£50 fucking quid! I think I'll wear sunglasses under the clear bugger.
It'll be about the only thing legal about me.

Nitro ones are much cheaper from the Northern Irish place that WUN
    doesn't like.

Cane scribbled on the back of a napkin:
That's cheap for a visor these days.

    <rant mode>
My (expensive) Schuberth S1 has proved to be pretty much useless in the
winter as the high tech anti-mist coating only works if I'm doing
60mph+ which is rather ridiculous for a premium helmet. I don't believe
the line that it's a batch of faulty visors because I've heard the same
complaint from enough people to come to the conclusion that "they all
    do that sir".

So someone on ukgser.com tells me he got a pinlock visor for the helmet
and that sorted out his misting problems. I get on the blower to my
local (well, in London) Schuberth stealer, who hasn't even heard of
that. He phones me back two days later telling me that yes, he can get
it within two weeks[1] and it would be a bargain at ninety quid, which
"includes the pinlock insert". Fucking hellbeans, I've bought a rather
decent Nitro lid for noticeable less says I and hang up.
Heh. Getting soft in your old age?

[1] Please bear in mind that this is the same company that assured me
that the replacement visor mounting plates would arrive within three
days. They neglected to tell me that there was an implicit three-month
    delay included in the process.

No, you'd have to buy a Nitro lid, but visors are cheaper from then on.

have you tried fairy liquid smeared over the inside of the visor? I use
this as although my ShoeiXR1000 does have pinlock insert, the top lies
in my eyeline and is irritating.

I've just checked The Visor Shop it appears that the Shoei 'dark tint'
visor for my Shoei X-Spirit costs £45 and if I wanted the 'red-centre
    mirrorised' version it's £70.

Are the mirrorised visor varieties as dark as the 'dark tint' ones?

Yes. I hit a bumble bee at 60 mph and it blew the coating off the
    shield. That was a waste.

Can I just say that the Visor Shop are thieving cunts who don't deserve
    to stay in business?

    Thanks.

    That's nice.

They stole some of my money. I don't like them.

I expect it is. They (eventually) shipped me faulty goods, dicked me
about for several weeks, then failed to refund postage and packing.

What did I do about it?

I instituted a "Warn people not to do business with the thieving cunts"
    campaign.

    has the details.

Take your money elsewhere, would be my advice.

Magpie1892 scribbled on the back of a napkin:
You can't - the visor has an anti-mist coating on it that works with
enough airflow. If you get *anything* on that it doesn't work at all,
    plus you damage the coating...

It may have passed the standard, but higher value helmets tend to exceed
the pass level by some great margin. Think exam passes. I've known some
pretty thick fuckers scrape a pass in a subject without really knowing
much. Someone with an A grade will be far better at that subject.
Serious motorcyclists tend to spend more on helmets because they last
longer and give a greater level of comfort and protection. I used to
compare a £100 AGV to a £350 Arai when I was selling helmets at retail
level. The £100 AGV pased the standard at a lower level than the Arai,
but the Arai is better made and is far more comfortable. The AGV will
probably last 18 months before it starts to look tatty and worn inside,
the Arai will still look good and be comfortable after 4 or 5 years. On
the whole the Arai makes better sense, but if you only have £100 to
spend then get what fits you best.

Comfort is much more important than anything IMO. If your helmet is
uncomfortable you won't be able to concentrate as well and are thus at a
larger risk of having a prang.

Longevity is also important; I've had Arai helmets which I've worn for,
say, 8 hours a week on average over three years which look better than
Kiwi ones after a years use.

Protection, I don't know about. I've crashed in Kiwi, Arai, Stadium and
well, I'm sure others. They all did their jobs equally- excepting the
Stadium open face; that didn't protect my face very well. I don't think
that I'd assume a well fitting Arai would protect my head better than an
equally well fitting no-brand. I doubt the well fitting no-brand exists
    though.
