He's probably been eating the processed muck they pass off as food as well.

I realise you're trying to be crafty and possibly slightly insulting but
    I don't understand what you're implying?

Of course they do, unless (like me when I'm pillion) they're sticking
their head out in order to get a decent view. Pillions are situated
right about the end of the silencer. I can sure notice the difference in
exhaust note when I'm pillion on the same bike as I ride.

You may well do... but you're missing the point I feel.

Most of the noise likely to damage the hearing of a rider over the years, is
generated by the wind... not the exhaust.

It's nothing to do with social status, and everything to do with 'I shopped
there once, and realised it was cheap muck that I didn't enjoy eating, and I
    didn't go back again'.

Granted, they're good for things like cartons of fruit juice (albeit from
concentrate), and pikey helmets (so I am told), but things like pizzas and
the like, are bloody awful IME.

And the amount of noise caused by wind is directly proportional to the
speed one is travelling. If I was reguarly doing 100 MPH + for long
periods of time, then maybe things would be different. You would be
surprised at the amount of padding around the ears in my lid.

There's loads of good food at LIDL. What is it you didn't agree with?
They're good for decent cheese and meat. The fruit and veg is
questionable, but the fruit and veg from supermarkets is always
questionable in comparison to market stalls.
There's only one way to make a pizza IMHO which is to buy the 49p Tesco
Value ones and pimp them up yourself. Saves a fortune on buying the posh
    **** brands.

What is your obsession with thinking my helmet is pikey? You haven't
    even seen my helmet!

YTC. I can figure out that that one..... oi!
There would appear to be not a lot of difference between noise levels of
different helmets. It would be *very* interesting to conduct the same
    experiment with a LIDL lid.

Well, I've not worked out not to do this in 26 years of riding bikes.

  13. In terms of what your ears receive, probably, yes.

  14. Actually, Lidl and Aldi often have some remarkably high quality stuff,
that they've managed to bulk buy as one-offs.

And, being German chains, they are invariably good at hams, cooked meats
    and beer.

A lot of their stuff is cheap, but it certainly isn't all cheap and
    nasty.

I think you'll find the noise is proportional to an exponent of the
speed, similar to wind drag, rather than a linear directly
    proportional relationship.

    What is this, helmet snobbery?

Even the best helmets won't give you much protection from a head-on
impact at the speeds of which an RXS-100 is capable. Above a certain
rate of ac(de)celeration a few centimetres of foam can't stop the
    brain impacting the cranium.

Most CE-marked helmets will protect the wearer from a glancing blow,
and will suffer similar damage to other helmets.

The differences are mostly price, comfort, maintainability, longevity
and mechanism quality rather than the survival prospects of the
    wearer.

IIRC, the life of an undamaged helmet is primarily limited by
oxidisation of the shock-absorbing lining, and this is not measurable
without destroying it. I would be surprised if this varies greatly
from one brand to the next, because if it did I would expect the fact
    to have been advertised.

This thread reminds me of kids in a playground ganging up on someone
who doesn't have the latest trainers and logo'd clothing.

I've considered the possibility of a troll.

Credit where it's due, I think his argument on helmets is valid, so I
    agreed.

His knowledge of noise affecting bikers is not, so I disagreed.

No witch-hunts from me in this case.
