How times change

Just returned from visiting my mother.

She gave me this old picture she found of my father and his
friends at the TT. She thinks it was around 1952/'53.

Just thought I'd share.

 

Very nice. It's reminded me that I must get some of the ones of my
Grandad's cycle racing in the 30's scanned.

 

Nice composition and sense of the scene.

It seems to be that then photography was more expensive people took more
care in what they shot.

 

Heh, no. Third from right covering the 'V' in Avon.

 

There's a difference between father and dad. I'm the father of one, but
dad of four.

 

Untidy feckers. That guy on the left is certainly foaming at the mouth
about something.

 

Harry Connick Jnr is a time traveller it seems.

They still had rationing back then, he'd possibly found and eaten a bar
of soap in the absence of decent food.

 

I'd have gone for second from the left.

I'm guessing that it was in the back of his mind that he had to go
back to Scotland. He can't have known 20 years in advance who was
coming to visit...

 

That's a great photo. Some of them look quite hard and have that 1000
yard stare. Only 7 years after end of war so maybe some served?

 

Very nice to have.

We might criticize them now bit the motorcycle gear hawked by Heinz Gerkin
has improved over the years.

 

My thoughts exactly. I can just see that lot in battledress, draped over
a Chevrolet truck in the desert, smoking pipes and waiting for a cuppa.
