    Hello all.

Stalled my GPX250 the other day and couldn't get it to start again.

I've spoken/typed about this problem before and it was suggested I get the
valve clearences adjusted. I have had this done by my bike mechanic friend
but it seems to have not fixed the problem.
Either he hasn't adjusted them right, or I'm burning valves quickly (done
2000kms) or there is some other problem. suggestions welcome.

Anyway that's not what I'm here for. In my effort to get it started I
thought I might try a push start it to see if that would work. Only it will
only go into first. How do I push start this bike?

    Thanks.
    Gavin

Push the gear lever the other way and put it into 3rd. Or push it in
neutral then jump on and kick it in third (usually the easiest way if
you're on your own and you have a hill available)

First gear is fine. I had a flat battery for about week, and was push
    starting my GPX no problems.

If it's the same gearbox as the ZZR JL (and chances are,
it is) it won't go anywhere other than first when it's
sitting still. By design. Dunno if it will go into third
when it's being pushed along but.

We found the best way to get my friends GPX going was to start pushing it
while it was in neutral then click it down to 1st but keep the clutch
disengaged for about 10 secs then pop it...

  6. Push starting is fine in first gear, so long as your clutch isn't worn out.

As for the not starting, how hot is it? My GPX started overheating once, and
was a BASTARD to start when it was cooked.

He'll have fun trying to push it along if he's putting it in gear while it's
standing still. Even with the stupid kawasaki gearbox[1] once it's rolling
along in neutral he should be able to select any gear he likes.

[1] they obviously never considered that when it's pissing down rain and I
have up to 180hp on tap I might actually want to choose 2nd or 3rd gear while
    stationary.

I think my 1st gear push starting technique needs work. I didn't try too
hard because I didn't want to look like a dickhead. If you say it can be
done I'll try that next time.

GPX runs with the temp needle at about a quarter. If your stopped at the
lights it never gets to half way. normal?

This is fine if you've got a pusher or a hill to get up some momentum but
if you're stuck with just you on a flat road you need to use first.
I usually try and get whatever geographical advantage I can from the
chamfer of the end of the driveway or the camber of the road.
I sit ON the bike and just paddle it forward with my legs and then pull in
the clutch, kick it into first, raise my arse 6" off the seat and as I bang
my arse back down I drop the clutch and jiggle the throttle and then pull
the clutch back in the instant it fires.

Mind you; this takes a bit of co-ordination and will only work for bikes
that otherwise run fine but are lacking volts.

If the bike is fouled up from a long period of inactivity or is in a poor
state of tune then get a few pushers and use third!
    Good luck,
    Clem

****; if I was pushing you and you waited 10 seconds you'd better hope it
starts 'cause I'd bash you if I caught hold of you!!

(Actually; I don't think I could even keep running for 10 seconds!!)

    He's not - he's playing around in some lame-arse google-ad-spamming
usenet-to-webforum website. He's go no idea he's actually on the
aus.motorcycles newgroup and so even if he did care about usenet
etiquette or conventions, he wouldn't know to apply them in the "forums"
    he thinks he's using.

    My advice?

I think it's the Yarra that runs through where Leo is at Warburton and it
looks pretty nice and clear up there.
Is there a mud-works closer to town?
