How to ruin an afternoon

I was out running errands today, I was on the access road to the
expressway behind a small truck traveling about 10 mph. He pulled to the
far right side of the road and I thought he was letting me go by. As I
pulled along side, he cut to the left which I was not expecting.

So, the helmets fucked, my elbow is a few sizes larger than normal, I've
a slight headache, the hiking boots that I thought were okay to ride in
weren't and have a hole in my foot as proof.

The V-Strom has a bit of cosmetic damage and also a wobble which
probably means something in the forks is fucked.

Plod said it looks like no contact was made and that the front just
washed out from braking/turning. So, report taken as I was injured even
so slightly and no doubt a piece of yellow paper will arrive in the post
as a reminder of how stupid I was.

As an aside, as I was talking to plod a motorcycle flew past with a
helmet-less rider a few seconds later plod went past in hot pursuit.
    There were no helicopters overhead.

It's also in 'the police rider's handbook to better motorcycling' which
    is on my desk.

I will have to spif it up a bit.

Sighting down the forks it appears there is a twist somewhere in the
forks. I guess[1] I can loosen the triple clamp bolts and see if it
    comes out and retighten.

    [1] yes/no?

    Yes.

Loosen the lower triple clamp bolts and compress/bounce the suspension with
the front wheel against a wall, not by holding the brake.

I think I have to go back to Specsavers[1] and have a word with them
about my glasses. I read this as *spliff*.
Worth a try IMHO before coughing up more cash for parts.

[1] They've got a rather cute optometrist there...

Cool, I still detect a very slight wobble but I think this is the
earlier problem that I had with the Avons (possibly out of round).

When are you coming back? This time you pick the place as apparently I
    got it wrong last time[1].

    [1] Too feking noisy, eh?

It was a bit, yes. I SAID IT WAS A BIT NOISY...

Well, I'm in Vegas in September if you fancy coming over - was/am
planning a tour[1] through the Southwest, up to the Black Hills but not
sure if exactly which way we're going. Ann's never seen Bodie or Mono
Lake so maybe we go up that way.

    [1] Two-wheeled tour that is.

Ah, we're just back from Washington then and I doubt I'll be able to get
    more time off.

Fair enough - I don't think we'll be going much further west this time
as the original plan was to ride up to the Black Hills via Yosemite and
circle back through Colorado (Ann's mother has a cabin there) and the
north side of the Grand Canyon.
