I'm sure if any had, you'd have heard about it. If all 2,700 had jumped
you'd have been lucky to find a single one survive. But at least there
was a very small chance of survival, and if the intent was to survive
rather than be burned to death, then it doesn't go down as suicide in my
    book.

I think that the difference, compared with other similar escapes, is
the type of surface that the jumpers landed on. I doubt there was very
much in the way of soft landings, at the bottom of the towers.

I saw a French documentary that happened to be following a Merkin fire
station when the whole thing kicked off. The camera crew were in the
second building (IIRC) and all you could hear were massive "explosions"
[1] where bodies where hitting the ground.

[1] For want of a better word.

  4. *If* they were jumping with a hope of saving themselves don't you think
they might have used items to slow their decent? It's amazing the
difference things can make to terminal velocity. That said, without
something like a large blanket tied off I doubt it would make enough
    difference.

In freefall the body rolls into a splayed out face up attitude unless
you adopt a specific posture, keep your head up and you have no idea
where the ground is. You'll never know you hit it. Sounds a shed load
    better than burning to death.

They're septics - they would've had more surface area than yer average
    parachute anyway.

I feel sorry for the ground. Imagine what it must've been like, sat
there minding its own business, when 200 40+ stone yanks landed on it.
No wonder the towers collapsed. It wasn't the super-heated metal
buckling that caused it, it was the 200 mini-earthquakes.

Sorry for it!! Did it have a notice saying that it's contents might be
hard? No it didn't did it. It's it's own bloody silly fault and if the
merkins sue the bollocks of it it only has itself to blame.

    Death was unavoidable either way.

****, you're behind the times. Rich sold the Zephyr to get the ZX-9R
that I bought from him a couple of years ago.

Well, it's outwith the UKRM fold now, bless it, to where its slutty
tendencies are no longer of any consequence. Unlike half of UKRMers
    themselves...
