    For the Regulars up there...
I'm putting the final touches on the Brissie-Melb ride on Nov
and would like your opinions on which way being the "better" one from the
Hunter down to Sydney...Wollombi or Putty Rd.?

Done the Putty before (in the rain) and really only liked the northern part
(out of Singleton and through the gorge, after that is seemed a fairly nice
but standard road, south of the Midway-House it got stale...then again, that
was a few years ago and the grog seems to have dulled the memories somewhat
    :)

Never gone through Wollombi and I'm tending to rather go along there, this
    time around.
Would be great if you can sway me one way or the other...
Which one has the more interesting scenery? Road condition? bends/ corners?
Lookouts/ pubs or other interesting things along the way?
Speed traps? Mobile phone cover (just in case)?

    Thanks
    pete

Maaateee !! You do both ! Do the loop !

Alright, so if you don't have time, the Wollombi Rd is OK, but really it's best
down as part of the loop through the Putty and back - by itself it's a bit
ordinary. The broke /wollombi rd is mostly fast sweepers with a short tight
section. Basically depends where you're planning to stay the pros of the
wollombi rd is a decent pub in the middle and it's a bit less trafficked than
putty, minus is the good bit is a fair bit shorter. Putty - variable road
surface quality and more traffic vs a decent length of bends (and yeah it can be
a little boring south of the halfway house - unless you do it at warp speed -
the 85's are heaps tighter at 160+ !

    Thanks for the help, John.
Just the stuff I was after.
Yeah, I know we should do the loop, but with all the other stuff lined up,
even the 2 weeks from Brissie to Melb isn't enough...
I was just asking, since I hadn't done the Wollombi yet and see it mentioned
    over and again around here.
....and since we'll have a quick look at Wisemans ferry anyway (coming off
the Putty, I was thinking; why not the other way around and actually take
the ferry then to get acrocc to Blaxlands...
    Thanks for all the info.
    cheers

Errmm there's only 2 ways to get to Wiseman's from the putty road i know of -
one is to go via wollombi (turn off 30K south of singleton and the other is to
go into Sydney (well all right, Windsor) cut across and then come back out to
Wisemans (unless there's an alternate I'm not aware of)

Blaxlands has me lost - I thought that was in the blue mountains ?

Sorry, that's what I meant, either go down Putty, then cut across to
Wisemans, back again and up Blaxland Rd towards Lithgow.
....or, down Wollombi, Wisemans, Blaxlands Rd. to Lithgow.
The only 2 ways to get to Wisemans I can find on the NRMA maps.
    cheers
