    Then you can afford to be self sufficient and hardly need the ute, the
    merc or the license, do you :)
    Only because there's more of them. Individually, old drivers scare me
    far more than young drivers, and justifiably given the ones that have
    pulled out in front of me.

    Fortunately most old drivers seem to be aware of their limitations and
    limit their driving frequency accordingly.

    In WA you can get an R-N licence, which entitles you to ride a moped
    only at 16.

    Any other licence allows you to ride a moped, but you have to be at
    least 17 to get any other licence.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    If you're a Queenslander you need a car licence or a bike licence to ride a
    moped.... but you can't get a bike licence unless you already have had a
    car licence 12 months so that bit is just a little superfluous!
    You missed what was being replied to Cam.
    I said "I have a moped licence....."
    Zebee said "Because it's not a "moped licence" it is a driver's licence with
    conditions...."
    I listed the vihicles on my licence. (quoted above).
    At no time were we talking about a NSW licence; just what I am licenced to
    operate (and expect to still be licenced to operate if I relocate).
    I don't care if you call them mopeds, superbikes, power-assisted bicycles or
    wanker's-wheelchairs; I'm currently licenced to operate one ANYWHERE in
    Australia and I'm pissed off that after 3 months of living in NSW I get
    disqualified for no good reason.
    Mate, if you lived in NSW for three months, you'd have a lot more to be
    pissed off about than not being allowed to ride a moped.
    I actually would call them mopeds, but the powers that be in NSW don't,
    so they don't, in a legal sense, exist.
    If they asked me, I'd have a similar set-up to Q'land, but <shrug> they
    haven't asked me.
    There is no moped only licence in QLD then? A bike licence is
    superflous as a bike licence will allow you to said non-existent moped
    in NSW.
    I'm personally not totally comfortable with a car licence holder being
    allowed to ride a moped with no two wheel experience or required
    training.
    But this is the silly bit. They do exist, they are road legal, and
    NSW has licences that cover riding them so when I front up and present
    my Qld "moped" licence (class c) I will be yelling if they can't
    supply me with a NSW licence to operate the same vehicle (seems to be
    an "R" as far as I can tell).
    Agreed but I'm not happy with a Toyota Yaris driver being licenced to
    drive a 4.5t truck and trailer either!
    And you're not really gonna' get into much more trouble on a 50cc /
    50kph scooter than you could on a pushbike......
    Lots of these types riding around the Gold Coast (Japanese Tourists as well)
    on 50cc deathtraps rented out by Shonky Operators, they kill a few every
    year.
    Seen them a few times in convoy riding up the motorway to Brisbane from the
    Gold Coast flat out at 80kph in the fast lane blocking traffic, 110kph
    limit.
    We managed and we didn't have any training... or did your tester do more
    than send you around the block on the bike you already had?
    Tthere are three rider licences in the allegedly "National" Licence
    system
    Driver Licence Classes Class Description Experience Requirement
    R-N
    Moped No experience required (minimum age 16 years).
    R-E
    Motorcycle No experience required (minimum age 17 years).
    R
    Motorcycle Must have held an R-E licence for at least one year.
    An R will defintely allow you to ride a moped, or a Busa. They're not
    going to give you one for your car licence.
    I couldn't see R-E on the RTA website but yeah; whatever the minimum
    licence(s) that covers the vehicles on the Qld licence.
    err, um, well, mostly!
    and
    You won't have to yell, if you have a pukka motorbike licence to trade in.
    If you haven't, and only have a moped licence, then tell me when you're
    gonna try it, and I'll sell tickets for the spectators.
    [shrug] I didn't say it was gonna' work; I was just explaining why I'm
    entitled to receive it (and on what I would base my argument).
    The same would apply if I had a motorcycle-based trike here in Q. I
    have to get a C licence to ride it (I can only do the bike test on a
    two-wheel vehicle) but it's not a valid vehical on a NSW C licence so
    I'd expect to get a NSW licence that DOES cover it.
    Logical arguments don't often work if the target is state government
    rules. :-(
    I don't get the significance of a C licence.
    Here in NSW, a motorcycle based trike requires a motorcycle licence,
    and, you can only get a motorcycle licence on a regular motorcycle.
    One logical argument which did, amazingly, work, was that older folk who
    ride/drive trikes or sidecar rigs, when they reach 85, can now be tested
    on their three wheeled vehicles. It isn't easy to organise, and the RTA
    keep fairly quiet about it, but it can be done.
