I got done for towing a small unregistered victorian trailer behind a
victorian registered car with a victorian license (which is legal in
victoria as small trailers not as wide as your car don't need
registration) when I was about 30kms north of the murray river in NSW.

He was moderately nasty when I (paraphrasing) said "wtf? (I suspect he'd
booked a number of victorians for the same thing and was getting sick of
    explaining it).

I wouldn't count on one states interpretation of the law protecting you
in another state (despite the problems that must present border dwellers).

See my earlier post about 'registration/trailer/booking' and you'll see
that there are issues with registration as well.

I'm sorry to keep harping about my trailer... but I was using it in the
course of a business for the purposes of commerce and it was legal in
Victoria and I still got booked in NSW.

er... if you were using it for commercial purposes, didn't it needto be
    registered in Victoria?

The Liberal Party solution to the dunny problem is not to build one in
the first place. Unfortunately, this leaves the whole country deep in
    shit.

(sorry, couldn't resist this time. I did ignore the previous 30 times
    you posted this 'sig')

Are you suggesting that Victorians also have to leave their unlicensed
    trailers at the WA border?

    See paragraph 11 of

    http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/nsw/consol_reg/rtrr2007478/sch1.html

Of course the regulations may have been changed since you were booked.
Still, policemen are not lawyers, and many subtleties of the law will
escape them. The mere fact that you get booked doesn't mean that what
    you were doing was unlawful.

    Sylvia.

Once again, vehicle registration != drivers' licences.

Would you be prepared to bet an unlicenced riding ticket on that?

If it's illegal to ride one on a car licence in NSW, then holding a QLD
licence won't change that. It'll *still* be illegal regardless of where the
    bike and licence originates from.

    It is.
In particular, what a specific class of licence allows you to legally
operate. The fact that a QLD car licence allows you to ride a moped in QLD
doesn't mean that permission automatically extends to any part of the
country beyond QLD's borders. Particularly if other states have specific
    licencing requirements for such vehicles.

If I were you, I'd talk to someone who isn't an anal fuckwit, like Sylvia,
    before risking a ticket.

Since most road rules are the same in all States the simple answer is yes.
There are a few state specific rule or in the case of Vic Melb CBD
specific rules like hook turns because of trams but rules like that
don't change what vehicle a person can drive/ride.
In my observations most Queenslanders take sfa of any road rules so if
they ignore the rules in Vic nothing will have changed much:)

I don't think it is different, in Vic the min age to drive is 18 but
they don't stop interstate drivers of a lower age.

Same as different ages, different states different rules but freedom of
trade between states allows people from one state to enter another state
    without being hassled.

This is about a moped, right?

Now, it isn't illegal to ride one in NSW on a car licence, it actually
is that mopeds don't actually exist in NSW road rules.

You can't have a moped registered in NSW, there is no such beast.

So, a Queensland registered moped, being ridden by a Q'land car licence
holder, in NSW is legal, but, the Zebee Johnstone law of public
    stupidity does still apply.

Ride it from the caravan park on the outskirts of Dubbo, sensibly, into
the centre of Dubbo.... no problems.

Down the Hume Hwy, or across the Harbour Bridge, expect a ticket.

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, as should be immediately obvious from my
comment, but I do have some experience in riding what _should_ have been
classified as a moped, a Honda Z50, in NSW.

No, but they do have to display the details of car's number-plate on
the back of the trailer; that's what they're generally pinged for in
    the other states.

The rule I mentioned may not be the right rule but its something like
that that allows people from one state to visit another state without
needing a license for every state.
