Correct, the licence granted to a driver to drive a taxi is not called a
Taxi licence, it is called a Drivers Certificate and a driver of a Taxi
holds a Drivers Licence and a Drivers Certificate not a Taxi Licence.

A Taxi Licence is the licence granted by to commercially operate the
    Taxi as a Taxi.

I wasn't aware one could do that.
Nor was I aware one could do that.

I will keep it in mind if it ever happens again (unlikely but possible).

  5. Sorry Geoff, I didn't mean my reply to be against your thoughts, I was
mislaid by the previous posts and clipping and snipping of your replies

NSW Police Safety Bureau had such a bad reputaion and and such poor
public relations, they had to change the name to Highway Patrol.

I take every fine to court; over the years about 25% never get prosecuted as
the cop is too busy/retired/injured to pursue the matter.

  11. There are quite a few bike riding lawyers, or solicitors as they are known
    in OZ
but unfortunately, there is at least one call centre telephone operator who
    rides a bike
well, sometimes he does, the rest of the time, he is stuffing up the bike
    with self mechanics

Well first you'll need to have legal grounds before you're likely to win
    a case and get costs...

Just because the federal constitution gives the feds the right to pass a
law on the subject doesn't mean they have done so...

    JL
(I'm fairly sure there's no law on the books saying GS is allowed to tow
his unregistered victorian trailer into NSW just because he's carrying
    some work equipment.)

Oh for crissakes you pedantic bastard, it's pretty clear from the
context I was talking about drivers licences not dog licences fishing
licences or taxi bloody licences <sheesh>

Besides which you're still wrong - there's no way a taxi licence (in the
sense of a licence to operate a taxi cab(1) not a licence to drive a
vehicle) comes under the commonwealth powers governing trade between
states. There is no interstate trade of taxi plates - they're state
specific. In fact they're often city specific.

    JL
1 In NSW that would normally be referred to as ownership of the taxi
plates - I've not heard it called a licence here

  19. Just an idiom, some call it a taxi licence, some call it an operator
licence, some call it a taxi plate.

No matter how much I might think he deserved it it's still an abominable
situation for people to stand around and cheer while someone is in pain in
    the middle of the road.
Didn't someone have a stick or a brick to put him out of his misery? (And
get him off the road to restore traffic-flow)?
