Ok, first big issue... is there any knack to getting iTunes to accept
that iTunes UK store is available and I'm able to buy stuff from it?

Every time I got in I get a message about it not being available in my
country yet, despite me setting up my Apple profile with "Great
    Britain".

Works fine for me. Is everything set to "UK" in Control Panel?

Alternatively, is it doing some weird IP geolocation shit, and you're on a
corporate network that hits the intarweb somewhere in teh US?

    Made me laugh, that did.
This bit didn't though because 1)The monitor bloke was such a **** and
would've put me off buying anything else and 2)Tescos are selling a MP3
player for less than a tenner up there ^^^^

Keep your money in your pocket. YKIMS.

It's always had the FM radio, even when it was called the Muvo.

    I don't have a use for a gadget that's just an mp3 player. I'm trying
to keep abreast of the situation in case I'm asked about them. The
only player I liked the look of was sony's new oled adorned things
(both the stick and the black mp3 walkman harddisk thing), but I was
slightly disappointed IRL. Not quite sure why though.

That's the content owners, not Apple. They're all at it.

Wait for neck implants (see: The Matrix). MP3s will be so last year when
you can go and see your favourite band without leaving your house.

Oh, that. To be honest I'd probably rarely buy anything from it, but
I'd like to be able to sample stuff.

I prefer to buy real albums, properly mixed and mastered onto a decent
cd with all the booklets etc for less money than iTunes want for the
    album.

The Nano I bought is now wrapped up for Fiona's birthday but I was
impressed by its size, spec and general iPodness of it. I was pretty
much sold on them when I saw simonk's a couple of months ago.

Winamp sorted the need to use iTunes although having since found its
browse option iTunes has been reclassified as "shit" but down from "very
    shit".

    I don't mind it. But then, I'm a notoriously un-critical user of
    software.

Can Winamp subscribe to podcasts, too? One of my life's small pleasure
is listening to the previous day's Big Interview from the Today
    programme, while driving to work.

    His and hers? heh...
If you're going to buy a Mac, wait until the Intel ones come out. :)
Are they? I've only been in one.

  19. There's a podcast plugin on the winamp site. I haven't tried it, though.

Yup, black one for me, and a white one for 'er indoors. Mind you,
they're both 4Gb ones so we could swop if we need to colour
    co-ordinate with an outfit :)
Actually, the more I think about it, the more I like the idea. I
think I'll ponder it over the next year and make sure I can do
everything I do on this one on a Mac.

That said, this laptop is pretty shit-hot and wouldn't warrant change
    for at least 18 months.
Well, the one in the Bullring is.
