I got pulled over tonight.

Oddly, I'm rather glad I did. Turns out both rear lamps have blown. One has
blown both filaments, one works only on the brake light. This left me with
only the numberplate lamp for rear illumination.

The copper that pulled me was OK about it, he seemed to adopt the attitude
that shit happens, and its his job to inform me of a potentially dangerous
situation and that I should rectify it ASAP.

We went through the vehicle check, and all was well. Bike registered to me
and all that. Bike taxed, good tyres, legal plate, legal exhaust.

He asked me what the first thing I'd be doing in the morning was. My guess
is he expected the answer of procuring a pair of rear lamps...

Without thinking I replied 'Having a cigarette and scratching my testicles'

He creased up and told me to piss off home, wishing me well as he did.

No 'safety' camera would have picked up blown rear lamps and it might have
been days before I noticed it. So, Mr.J.Random-Copper, whoever you were,
err, thanks for pulling me over!

  3. I had something similar, four or five years ago, when the dip beam blew
    on my old CD175.

I'd just ridden down unlit country lanes, and it was working then, but
it blew when I was on a brightly lit dual carriageway, so I didn't
notice it (CD175 6v lights being what they were).

So I got a pull. Not a nick, but a pull. And I was effing grateful for
it. Switched to main beam and got home, but if it hadn't been for that
trafpol - well, on a scuzzy winter's night, rider all in black, bike
    with no lights, intersection...

    I don't need to paint a picture.

The holier-than-thou arseholes think road safety begins and ends with
speed and cameras. They're wrong. It's just possible that plod saved my
life, and they're taking trafpol off the roads because they're putting
in cameras. Bollocks to them all.

Not with grinning cunts who are apparently incapable of formatting or
even snipping a post before hitting send.

Don't you ever drink Italian wines then?
I'm rather partial to a decent bottle of Barolo me. Rather expensive and not
always readily available though, which is why I don't drink much of it. Mind
you, Oddies do a cheapy one for about £14 a bottle that's drinkable believe
it or not (cheap Barolo is usually more expensive than you would think and
totally rank IME) but I'd rather splash a quid or four less on something
better most of the time. Ho well.

  15. It was pointed out to me by someone who knows that Italy produces more
varieties of wine than any other in Europe.

  16. <serious mode>

Barolo, Bardolino, decewnt Chilean, Argentine, Australian, Sarf
    Effrican, anything.

Don't drink a lot of spirits and not much beer. But I do drink a lot of
    wine.

That Chilean stuff got trendy and stopped being cheap, though I've not drunk
any for ages so have no idea what the current state of play is.
If you can get it then try a bottle of Alto Rouge from Sarf Efrika, tis
wholesomely good regular plonk. That and a few others are readily available
down there if you've got the bucks (and with English money of course you've
got the bucks) but I rarely see them here and when I do they are priced
beyond belief (Like £15 for a bottle of Alto Rouge? They have to be shitting
me, it's good, but it's not *that* good).
AOL (least ways I don't drink much beer at home).

Not surprising, considering the amount of Bleu consumed in such a
    short space of time.
