I hate Leaf Blowers, but....

    Hi folks.

I used to hate those leaf blower things.... you know the ones that make
a terrible noise blowing leaves and whipper snippered bits of greenery
out of the garden they came from and onto the street.

But, I have recently heard of two uses for leaf blowers which may change
    my attitude.

The first was a mate, who admitted that he occasionally used his leaf
blower to dry off his motorcycle after he had washed it.

Then, on a BMW forum, someone explained, with piccies, how their
daughter had a school assignment about aerodynamics and how they had
used a BMW motorcycle, with bits of string and tape attached, to take
photos, and the leaf blower provided the wind flow.... kinda like a
    portable wind tunnel!

Perhaps not enough reason for me to buy a leaf blower myself, but, it
may make me more tolerant of the ignorant fucking bastards who think
they are being "tidy", blowing their garden clippings onto the public
    road.

    No.

On second thoughts, I still hate the bastards!

    regards,

I used mine this arvo after returning from doing a special walk to clean
up after mowing , 18v batteries and not loud , blowing our drive clean
into a nice pile to be barrowed round back for compost

I have a leaf blower. It is a fairly expensive model of the Stihl
brand. I use it to move leaves from a place I don't want them to
another place I don't want them. A better solution is a box of
matches, but then the greenies get upset. OTOH, a box of matches may
be the solution to greenies as well. That and a litre of petrol.

A half bottle of wine appears to affect my typing....... hic!

I still farking hate them. >:-( They seem to be highly favoured by
maintenance staff in schools, who just LOVE to have them on full blow
outside my classroom at the exact (rare) moment that the kids are getting
into some really good thinking and/or discussion...

In my own yard at home I still subscribe to the manual leaf removal system:
get a broom; sweep leaves into piles; pick up the piles with own two hands
and place into trash-pack. It's good exercise, and keeps me warm in the
    cooler months in Canberra...

Oh, dear! An arms race in garden implements! :)

Why do I suspect that Theo will win this one?

After all, if you live in an Ivory Tower, the garden has to be pretty neat.

  14. Hey CC

I dug up a larger picture of my BMW and found some of my previous bikes.
The last links are the bike I'm going to get if I'm ever able to ride
    again.

    Hi boB.
Nice pic. Looks more golden/coppery than red...... nice lady too.

What does "if I'm ever able to ride again" mean?

    Physical damage, or just circumstances?

BTW, (hope you don't mind, boB) for those concerned about friendly
discussion with "ring-ins" ..... check out

Some pretty tasty cars there, too.

I kind of liked the pic with your two cars, the Corvette and the Shelby,
with a wee Porsche 914 sitting quietly in the background.

    Here's my BSA 750 Rocket in 1972.
I owned this bike for about 6 months with 2 partners. We bought it
wrecked and put it back together as an investment. I'm bashing my head
against the wall that I didn't buy out my partners. I can only dream
    about owning it today.

  18. Thanks.... I was stationed in Germany for 9 years, 3 of which were in
Stuttgart. Gabriella is from Stuttgart but we met at the Grand Canyon.
She was a tourist and I was flying tours over the Canyon. On that day
I was flying Papillon Grand Canyon Helicopter six, callsign Copter Six..
The pain was getting worse so I decided to quit and go to Germany with
her for a year. It's a funny world.

I flew un-armed OH58D's in Desert Storm. 20 years of perfect health and
yearly flight physicals before, then sick and in constant pain after.

They gave up trying to find the cause and just give me a bunch of
narcotics, which a person can't take and ride a bike or fly anything.

I was an ultralight instructor for a few years after I retired from the
Army but it became too painful to sit in my micro-light I had to sell it.

If you are interested... Anyone in this group that rides or have
ridden motorcycles can fly an ultralight with very few hours training.

God, I wish I still had the 70 Shelby and the 69 Vette. I could buy a
pretty nice airplane with what they are worth now.

  19. When I bought it it had been in storage for a year. I trucked it to the
Kaw dealer and had the whole thing looked over and all fluids changed.
It only had 500 miles on it and the dealer told me to keep the RPM low
and break it in for 100 miles before going full throttle. At 101 miles
I (stupidly) cranked the throttle full open and it almost shot out from
under me. I slid off the rear of the seat just hanging on to the grips.
It's still the fastest bike I've ever owned.
