My winter steed includes specific instructions for destroying it in
the face of the enemy ...

Heh, whilst looking for the specific instructions, I happened upon
    this.

    Zose crazy French ...

Heh, someone I know with a UK licence took the hit for an Italian
colleague that was caught speeding. The Italian colleague would have
lost his licence and asked for a foreigner in the company to take the
blame. The foreigner was required to pay the fine, that's all (which
the Italian colleague did, of course).

No comeback or anything else like that afterwards, at all.

As an aside, I used to have a Polish phrase handy, saying that I don't
speak Polish (very handy when I used to get pulled at least once a week
for everything from not having headlights on to turning left on a
roundabout (yes, bloody stupid rule that was, but it's because it
    crossed a tram way).

One time I got stopped, I used the Polish phrase and said that I spoke
French or English. The Polish ol' Bill didn't. They asked me if I spoke
German, to which I replied a little. "Zu schnell, zu schnell" came back
    the reply. :)

Yup, i've seen more than one Italian copper nodding approvingly at a
Ducati with Termi's on it. What's the point of a Duc that doesn't look
    and sound beautiful ?

There are seemingly more flavours and pecking orders of police in Italy
than anywhere else. If they think the Carabinieri are stupid I can't
imagine what they think of the Municipale.

  5. Switzerland and Austria were best. I've even forgotten about the fines
    in Switzerland now.

Doesn't really matter whether they've forgotten or not. I've paid.
Tend to go there a couple of times a year so it would be a tad
irritating to be refused entry or exit at the airport...

Oh sure, I didn't mean they'd be on your case.
Yeah, a certain silver-haired lothario was somewhat concerned about
which passport control to come through on arrival next week...

Which country in Europe is most likely to be have the required bureaucracy
    to tie it all up.....

I don't currently go to RoI and they must be the least fucking likely

You are of course correct, but that's mostly the rank and file
coppers, who are really economic migrants from the south. So you get a
lot of the indigenous northerners looking down on the southerners as
'a bit thick'. (opposite to here really). The point I was (badly)
making is that the higher ranking youngish Carabinieri are usually
university graduates, military officer school and all that.

They do that everywhere. Well, maybe not the Gendarme, but the Spanish
do take the piss out of the Guardia Civile.
