Back from the Somerset mud. How Champ and Christofire failed to
massively enjoy themselves when they went, I have no idea.

I see Andy's done a good job keeping the crosspost-war going. Respect.

Anything interesting happened, or should I just mark all read?

Ah, must have got a bit muddled then. I know Chris definitely said he
didn't see what the fuss was about though.

SWMBO had one of the busiest days ever in the cafe yesterday, & took
nearly three times the average for a Monday. I can only presume this
was down to all the Glastonburyites in search of mud-free food whilst
    trundling back down the M4.

I stopped off at Leigh Delamere for a porcelain shit on the way home and
the place was rammed with stinking festival-goers covered in mud. The
    toilet attendant looked seriously mardy.

Overall it was ok, but it wasn't as great as I was expecting after
hearing so many folk talk it up. A bigger crowd/more beer may have
helped - the mate I went with, although interesting did give me some
pretty shit advice about what to take.

I took most of his advice as I assumed he knew what he was on about
having been a few times before, but ignored the "don't take wellies".
Again, I think it'd be better if I'd taken exactly what I planned (i.e.
    more beer, assorted other stuff).

As for Champ, I'd probably do a different festival than go back to Glasto.

Yeah, two of our bunch made that mistake on the Saturday night, only the
thing they were advised to take was a horse tranquiliser.
You ignored "_don't_ take wellies"?? 2004 was worse than this year
(though far less of a nightmare than 2005)!
Trouble is, the other festivals are pretty crap in comparison, with
either a crap line-up (V) , full of wankers (Reading), branded to hell
and back (V again) or in a shit location (T in the Park). The only one
that looks interesting is the Isle of Wight but that's marginally less
convenient than T. And none of that lot let you take your own beer in
and being able to camp inside the main arena is pretty unlikely.

Glastonbury's like five or six different large festivals in the same
site. It's all too easy to have a bad festival, but you can guarantee
you're having one that's nothing like everyone else you meet. I love it!

Last time I went (last year?) it was *compulsory* to take your own drink in.
It's cheap to get in - should appeal to the pikey end of UKRM[1]

It did also appear be compulsory that said drink had to be a gallon
    container of cider.

When we left we were amused by a policeman & woman on horses pointing
out to some people that camping (and hence sleeping) was not permitted
on site. As the recipients of the advice were lying down because they
were completely out of it it did rather fall on deaf ears. So much drink
and so little trouble, the cider did appear to give a friendlier sort of
    drunk.

Also consider The Eden Sessions, Larmer Tree Festival and Beautiful Days
    - all worth a visit IMHO

Just a series of standalone gigs really, and looking at this year's
line-up, everyone but the Pet Shop Boys were playing on the same ticket
at Glastonbury (in the case of Lily Allen and Amy Winehouse, at least
twice each at different times). Half the appeal of a festival is a
degree of serendipity beyond that even of Radio 4.
    <looks at line-up>

Seems to be all the beardy bits of Glastonbury combined with the
mid-afternoon acts-you've-never-heard-of. It certainly has the
serendipity aspect covered, but nothing that'd incline me to handing
    over dollars for entry.
Heh. The festival for Levellers fans and greboes who can't score a
    Glastonbury ticket.

I could be tempted by the Wicker Man festival, but all these things are
    just copies really, aren't they.

Quantick's OK. I'd be embarrassed to see The Fall in 2007.

Didn't see that. Didn't even look for it. Bugger.

I forsee large crowds of people drinking like mad just outside the
gates, and massive waterings of trees around 1/2 mile inside the gates.

Years ago, a bunch of mates and I went to MK Bowl to see Marillion,
armed with several litres of lager each. It was only when we turned up
at the gate that we were told that we couldn't take it in. We were
very bloated and very pissed by the time we did get through the gates.

I also got very badly sunburnt, obviously due to not bothering with
being careful, due to said alcohol intake.

I'm getting worried about you. This was with Jethro Tull 'supporting'?
TBH it was they who I went to see, and left before the end of the
Marillion set, which was fairly pedestrian. Trying to remember now who
    else was playing...

Oh, Gary Moore was also there, IIRC, but I'm sure there were others.

    heh. Correct.
JT were very good, but being a dedicated Marillion fan at that time,
    they could do no wrong.
    Magnum and Mama's Boys.

And yes, I had to google for that.

No, but I have got Reformation Post TLC. Not as good as Fall Heads Roll.

I had tickets for the infamous Worthing gig [1] but ended up, err,
    elsewhere [2].
