    Heh.

Changing topic entirely, any danger of a HAGM of the B12 at EOSM as I'm
    currently considering alternate motorcycles.

The dealer called this morning and awoke me from my slumber to say that
the nearside crash-bar mount was rotted through and that a new one would
have to be sourced from Krautland. Cue several aeons of delay.

They also went on to state that the front calipers were also fucked and
that they weren't covered under the warranty. I'm afraid I got a little
shouty with them at this point and suggested they seek alternative
    "solutions".

On the upside, they're going to replace the throttle twist-grip under
    warranty. How very fucking generous.

    They've not rung back.

NP. I'll write you a prescription for one now, if you like.

Wik emerged from their own little world to say
When my R-GS was 3 years old (2 years out of warranty as it pre-dates the
24 month warranty that comes as standard now) the rear caliper corroded.
The piston would not push back to allow new pads to be fitted. My dealer,
Rydales in Cardiff, got BMW to pay 50% of the bill.

Cheers, Wessie. I'll bear it in mind.

They've not given me a price yet but ffs, they're bloody Brembo calipers
so cheap they are not likely to be.
    :-(

  8. What? rotted through? What is it made of - papier mache?
I bet you got shouty. I was getting shouty just reading your post.
    Bloody outrageous.
And they make how much money as a business? And they trade on what
reputation? And the reality of Lozzo's notebook is?
I think if you'd got shouty with me I'd be a tad reticent to phone you
    back ;-)

    [mode=thread hi-jack]
Well, may as well formalise it :)
I actually wanted a 'Busa over a -12R but they're just too frickin' low
for me. And me knees touched the back of the fairing.

    [snip dealer shenanigans]
Well, to be honest, I have to agree it would be the sane choice.
I think you're one of the few people who could do a -12R justice and
that's not meant as an ego-flattering, riding-god style comment. I mean,
it is a big, heavy beast and needs wrestling sometimes, yes it does go
stupidly fast and gets there sooo much quicker than just about
everything else out there and no, it /isn't/ a "thoroughbred" superbike
a la every single current litre-bike, but it /is/ fucking comfortable
over distance, does have decent cornering potential (especially the
later ones) and I never had a bit of trouble with it, even after its
    "makeover".

Champ rode mine briefly on one of the French trips but that was hardly a
fair test 'cause the weather was utterly shite. Certainly not time
enough to form any solid, third-party input to this thread, other than,
possibly, it's potential to scare the crap out of one in the wet :)

Who's still got one on the group? Paul W's still got his, has Mark
    Derbyshire still got one?

Allegedly, yes. The upper, rear mounting bracket on the nearside where
the crash-bars bolt to the engine.
Apparantly, yes. Funny how Vines didn't spot it when they had the thing
in pieces replacing the gearbox housing a few months ago...
    Heh, aww, bless.
    :)
Indeed. Not, really the dealer's fault but, y'know, I'm more than a
    little cynical these days...
Quite. On all counts, I'm afraid.
    But I'm nice, me...
    :)

    [of -12Rs]
Mebbe so, not really something I personally give a lot of thought to,
but, I think I know what you mean. They can certainly be leant far
    enough.
Hmm...I know jack shit about the market in that respect so wouldn't like
to suggest a solution to that one, i.e. old and cheap vs new and not
    cheap.
Now /that/ appeals to me, too; all the handling plus stupidly quick
    stomp when required.

Changing the rear tyre halfway through the trip could be a pain, too.

Get a Wing, and have done with it.

    [-12Rs and lean-angles]
Mebbe not to less than 45deg :)
    <fx:sucks air through teeth>

Dunno about the newer ones, but the old ones like wot I had are a tad
less co-operative. Decent boingy bits (Ohlins or WP) would sort it but
not worth the hassle unless you /really/ want one.

There are a few people round here who witnessed me hustling the -12R
down some of Herts and Essex's twistier lanes and not become part of the
scenery who will attest to its capabilities even in the hands of a ham-
fisted clot like myself. Oh and one chap name of Corden, too. :)

Wrong. The Lozzo trick is it do the first bit you suggested then keep it
for a year/10K miles and make a handsome profit on sale.

Aye, they're a comfortable riding position with a positively sofa-like
seat compared to the -12R, but I'm just not that keen on 'em...

Last one I sat on was a brand new 2003 model and I felt just that; I was
sat *on* it rather than being part of it. Might try and wangle a test
ride some time soon, just to be sure.

Various people will doubtless now be along to extol or lambast said
    vehicle.
