....getting out of France would be so difficult without a passport.

Lets see if it gets any easier when the boat arrives in England

You're supposed to head to Sangatte and then smuggle yourself in in the
back of a lorry, you ninny!

Last time I did it, it was a doddle, but having been over to France in
the last few days, I see now that they have *both* French and UK
passport people on *both* sides of the Channel, now. When I did my
Passport Muppet thing on the French Run a couple of years ago, the
French waved me through on the UK side and the British just asked me
for some ID, told me not to be so silly next time, and waved me
    through on the French side.

Same thing happened when YTC forgot his passport, a decade or so ago.

I'm awaiting your next posting with keen interest.

Well, after all the time we spent agreeing the back-story and creating
the evidence trail, it seemed rude not to.

    <Bad form post>

I remember now. I borrowed an expired passport off a colleague to get
him out of Blighty. I was editing Freight at the time, and I moved
jobs to where I am now in 2001, so it was indeed about ten years ago.
    Must have been around 1999-2000.

I've been through the channel tunnel in the boot of a car for "passport"
    reasons. It was cozy.

  12. Like I said, I borrowed a passport off a colleague. She left the outfit
about a year before I did. I left in 2001.

2001, summer, no later than. So about a decade, as I said, definitely
not five years, but you're always right, so wtf.

So she left a few months before I did. Still, a decade ago.

    Oh, DAMN!

Still, never mind, they don't have the Internet in Yarl's Wood, so he'll
    never find out.

Here's the final paragraph in a post on the subject ... ironic, given
    the author.

"So there you have it, ladies and gentlemen: the full unabridged
version of UKRM does Dunkirk 2001. Accept no imitations. Anything
else they tell you is a bunch of cobblers. "

  20. Yeah, and Bruce's masterstroke was two months later

But, hey, he's always right, so obviously this is a forgery.
