You are getting old, it will be at lest 8 years ago, I still had a fuel
    card back then.

Passport control at Calais had me remove my helmet when returning from
Malta earlier this month - I'd ridden up to the booth with the front
flipped up. In the past they've never even looked at my passport photo
or even opened the book up.

  5. I always make a point of opening my passport to the photo page (it's
paperclipped) and presenting it open, the right way round for the
customs officer (or flight attendant/whatever). It's a small thing,
but usually results in a quick flick of their eyese down to the photo,
up to me and then a smile as they hand it back.

My recent trip to Blightly didn't work quite so well, the chick at the
booth seemed happy, but a chap appeared from behind her and started to
ask me some questions about my residence (Single male driver with Brit
Passport in a NL Registered car) and purpose of visit etc. I hope this
isn't going to become a standard feature of my visits.

On the way back, the officer I tried to hand my passport to didn't even
take it, just waved me through while talking to his colleague.

Last time I flew to Blighty, I went to B'ham airport and just stared into a
thing after sticking my passport on another thing. Took seconds and no human
interaction. You have to have that little symbol on the passport though, so
if your passport's more than a couple of years old, it won't work.

  7. Passport is too old for that. I almost signed up for the trials that
were done at Amsterdam, when I was flying weekly, but there was little
hold up that end of the trip, so seemed like an uneccessary expense.

Which reminds me, I need to renew my NL permit.

How quaint. With IRIS I don't even have to find my passport.
