I take back all I said about her!

Michelle went out and bought me a 30 pack of VB tinnies.
She noticed they had a buy-two-cartons-and-win-a-guitar promotion so she
bought a second carton, wrote my name on the ticket and then promptly forgot
    all about it.
Today a man rang my mobile and tried to get me to tell him my name so I told
    him to go away.
He rang again on the home number spoke to Michelle and then told me I'd won
a Fender Stratocaster and a little Fender amp.
Muck fee! I knew that good things come from beer-drinking.

So, what _did_ you say about her?

Apart from 'I do' though that was presumably _to_ her....

  8. Not with a strat it's not :p

Clem: A Strat Squier or a full-blown Strat?

    Squier.
What's the story; is that like a Mototrans Ducati or something?

    Knobdoodle, Jan 27, 2009

  10. Not really. A Mototrans Ducati is still largely Ducati spec. A Squier is
built offshore and to a price point. It's an entry level Fender. That
still makes it way better than the no-name Les Paul copy from Taiwan.
Which in turn is way better than no guitar at all.

Just don't expect Mark Knopfler to step aside for you.

More David Essex than David Gilmour eh?
    (or maybe Hero Honda)

Oh well; still better than a poke in the eye!

  12. Yeah - wot 'e said. There's several different builds of Stratocaster.
The Squier is the entry level, then there's the Mexican built Strat,
then the Japanese, then the US built one which is the expensive
    bugger. Better pickups, bridge, etc.

I've worked with people that can make a Squier sing though, so I
wouldn't be too worried. Still a nice guitar.

  13. I forgot to say - the modders go for the Squier and then do stuff like
noiseless pickups or molybdenum pickguards [1] Makes sense - if you're
going to make a cafe racer you start with a gixxer wreck, not a new
    Speed Triple.

Since most of the mods are invisible, nobody could tell just by looking
at it what you'd done (or hadn't). Look upon it as a project guitar.

[1] Orright, I made that up - they do something exotic with the
pickguards but I have no clue what.

  14. Yeah - I have a Yamaha strat copy here that has been through that
process. It now owns Seymour Duncan humbucker pickups, knife-edge
bridge, graphite nut and seat, etc, etc. Not worth selling as it isn't
a true strat and really sounds more like a Les Paul than a strat but
plays so nicely it would cost at least a couple of grand to replace it
with something that sounds as good. But if I were to sell it, I doubt
I'd get $500. That was the only guitar I didn't sell when I moved
overseas. Mind you, I wish now I hadn't sold my Schecter bass . . .

I have one in my shed, but you can't have it...(I'm not moving the
    CB900 to get it)

Actually,I think I recorded it off the ABC last year--just not sure
    where I "filed" it.
However,I also taped Quadrophenia on both my HDD recorders the other
week, but only one machine's disc would copy when I loaned it to a
    workmate.
I'll see what I can dig up (see ya at the Supers)--should only cost
you around $1000 (I gotta pay for a new HISS on the Slapper).
