Trust me, I was wide awake! That track from Talbotville (Dargo higgh
plains rally '06) was "interesting" on a road bike with narrow 'bars and
    road tyres.

That particular situation arose from riding the ridge of the road (where
embedded gravel gave marginally more traction) and going around a
pothole meant I had my front wheel to the left of the ridge, and my back
wheel to the right. The back wheel lost traction and just started
sliding off to the right, while the front wheel insisted on going left.
The whole bike slewed around and ended up where you see it. I have no
idea why it remained upright. The sloppy mud was so slippery I couldn't
get enough traction with my boots to be able to dismount in any manner
that might be considered dignified, so I just waited for someone to turn
up. Of course it had to be Sharkey. Of course the first thing he did
after finding a safe spot to park was get his camera out. (as you do). A
little pushing and shoving had me wobbling on my way again. The line of
mud along the bottom of the pannier was the result of an earlier
encounter with a roadside drain, where gravity dictated what part of the
road I might use. I was able to ride along the drain until it became
shallow enough to afford an exit.

I have no idea why I chose to ride that bike down that track in that
weather when only a couple of weeks earlier I had acquired this.
