One of the things I don't like about flickr is all the award nonsense, but
"nicepaul" summed it up nicely with:-

"(Just a shame my eyes are now bleeding after scrolling past all those
garish 'awards', especially the 'Nature Sanctuary' one which seems to have
been designed in Microsoft Paint by a blind three year-old on acid.) "

  2. Was watching Sky News this morning where there roving reporter was doing
a vox pop in Edinburgh Turnhouse. Some drunken twat came up behind the
folk Skyman was talking to and shouted "I hate Iceland!". Fucking idiot,
doesn't he know the Icelandics were doing him a good turn by preventing
him getting to Tenerife for a stag?

    Interesting.

NATS have a NOTAM saying that UK controlled airspace is closed from
12:00 today. That'll be 12:00 Zulu, so one may have snuck out at 12:22
BST, but it would have been one of the last.

Unless, of course, they're going VFR. (That's a joke, BTW, they're not).

So, to say at 14:28 BST that flights *ARE* getting out was incorrect.

At 400 for a 1st class seat on the 16:40 from Euston I really don't
    think it's for poor people.

It is. You're pretty poor after you paid for the ticket.

When I used that route regularly last year I was always amazed at the
number of people buying a ticket on the day for first class travel. I
always got dirty looks as I was working for a company with a relaxed
dress code (and buying a weekly season ticket in First was less than the
cost of 5 day returns in Standard), anybody not in pin stripes got
ignored by everybody apart from the staff.

Free brekkie in the morning and free beer on the way back - makes EMT
who I now use a right come down. "Breakfast" is a member of staff with a
plastic bag full of not very nice looking fruit. At least Chiltern had
bacon and sausage butties in the morning.

Thats what I thought, looking at the maps thee was probably a route south
    around Ireland
Air Transat, small airline, they will have needed the plane to get to
Vancouver so it can get back again for the nxt scheduled flight on Sunday.
It will have been in their interest to pay extra for a slot. Still rckon
Sarah has a travel insurnace claim.
Aye, but I did correct myslef and say were.

I'm supposed to be flying to China on Sunday. I really want to get
this over and done with. Not that I dislike China at all, but the loss
of a week, the hateful, hateful long-haul flights (now in cattle-class
due to costs) and the sheer domestic disruption is a right pain.

Annoyingly I've clocked up enough points for an upgrade with Virgin,
but BA was the only airline available when the trip was first booked.

Your ability to live up to your moniker is really quite impressive.

Advanced booking is great but NOT REALLY AVAILABLE WHEN YOUR FLIGHT IS
CANCELLED ON THE DAY BECAUSE A FUCKING VOLCANO HAS ERUPTED.

    Jesus.

Chopper flights ceased after around 2pm but Cessna/Piper flights
continued all afternoon. Not sure I'd be that happy as a paying
customer being told "it's ok" when every other bloody plane in the UK is
    on the runway.

Given the luck I would have expected XH558s post winter service test
flight to be today or tomorrow.
