Having listened to Pip extolling the virtues of his Vans skate shoes I
went in search of a pair in town. There's a small 'alternative'
clothing store in one of the arcades that sells DCs and stuff like
that, so I went in and asked "Do you know where I can buy some Vans
please?". Skater-dude behind the counter says "Have you tried Auto
Trader, my mate bought his Golf from there?"

I felt like twatting the dozy **** but just walked out instead

    haha

At least he didn't say, "grandad".

BTW, the Schuh chain stock the Vans range

Personally, I buy Airwalk trainers for use at work. Sports Direct (aka
Giles Sports, Sports Soccer & Donnay Sport) usually have them for £15-20

I shopped in Aldi yesterday, too.

Of course, I packed everything into Sainsburys carrier bags...

I probably am too. It's going to be noticeable in three weeks when I
    walk into university.

I bought a pair of those at the beginning of the year.
    They are really comfy, yes.

I'm not too keen on the style and even less enthusiastic about the price.

I buy trainers to be abused at work. £20 every 3-6 months. Latest
acquisition has been a pair of Karrimor Peak 81s. Very black, light &
comfy. Cost 20 quid. They were very good on the recent trip to Austria,
which included a bit of hill ambling.

Vans never seem robust. I quite like the black suede, skater type shoes but
wouldn't pay the £45-50 Vans want. I have bought similar looking, cheaper,
Airwalk jobs, as stated in my reply to Lozzo.

I looked at Airwalks, but they appeared a bit like Hi-Tec trainers do
    when compared to Nikes

    Well, I am 44 now.

And the older one gets, the comfier one's shoes need to be.

I have two current pairs, one of which is pretty much permanently on
my feet. I'm looking for deals on replacements atm, because the sole
on one pair is getting a bit smooth after two years. The others are
going strong after three, although the black suede uppers couldn't be
    described as 'smart' any more.

I don't object to ~40 quid a year for my footwear.

I really ought to get the LED conversion for my Maglite

That's my thinking on it. I've seen how well yours have lasted and
decided they are well up to the abuse I give footwear.

But you just know that as soon as you fit it, there'll be a special on
    the HID conversion.

I was a bit dubious about getting one, gave in to the urge and got on on
ebay. I had thought the performance (?) of the torch was good before, now it
just blindingly bright. Course I did look directly into the lens and
accidentally pressed the button. Left the feedback on ebay once I had
recovered sufficient sight in one eye.

What's wrong with the usual "FOYRNB" response?
