A stone fortress? Try a citadel made of mud brick. In fact the vast majority of the buildings in the
town were made of mud brick.

Just read your bible. You'll note the one god bit was made up about
200AD by a chap called Issiah. It wasnt for another 200 years after
that they came up with the concept of one god for everyone. Previous
to that the Jewish people were pagens with one small little sect going
round killing everyone who wouldnt agree that their god was the best
    of them all.

One of the main reasons the romans kept knocking off the local
population was because they kept fighting amongst themselves. You cant
have an orderly empire if the locals keep killing each other. I mean
look at mesada. If the zelots hadnt gone round bumping off the local
residents, the romans wouldnt have had to chase them up the side of a
mountain. Funny thing is, they are still doin it now :)

I've always thought the 6th commandment should be - You [foreigners]
shalt not muder. We can do it ourselves.

Around the time that was written (about 1350BC), the babylonians had
invented the clock. The british had grasped the concept of the wheel
(although they were still working with stone circles). Jason and his
argonaughts were cruising the sea lanes. Ramses II was creating huge
buildings. The Greeks were having a spat at Troy, and the Hebrews got
    lost in the desert.

Oh, and while Joseph is up a mountin learning how to read and write..
Joshua was off beating up the poor palistinians for the first time. I
suspect that when Jospeph pointed out that Joshua shouldnt murder, he
retaliated by asking whom he shouldnt knock on the head. The 6th
Commandment certainly didnt say anything about the palistinians.

Oh yeah, the two chaps were from two different sects. One was the
hebrew people and the other was an Israelite. I dont think they payed
attention to each other. Well, maybe they did when the romans chased
them up a mountain a thousand years later, but then everyone hated the
    romans.
