if I wanted another bike....

  1. So. The Yammie is probably not going anywhere for some time, as Phil
is still pretty unwell. I am not sure I want to bring it back and try
    and get it happening though.

I'm thinking I want a small light play bike. Something fun to ride,
that has sporting pretensions but only pretensions - I don't want a
head down bum up riding position so no Mitos/RS125s.

Being me, I also want something different. Every sod and his dog has
a Monster so I dunno I want one of those.

I rather incline towards a Motard style thing except I suspect my feet
wouldn't touch the ground on most of them. I could get it lowered,
which I might consider except it will add a couple of grand and I
don't want to pay more than $6k-$8k.

I don't think I want an inline 4, they don't do it for me.

VR400Rs are getting a bit old now I suspect, anyone seen one lately?

Any ideas on a playbike? What should I be looking at?

THis being Sydney it has to manage 50km transport sections before
getting to the fun stuff (big drawback to the Yam).

(and no one say "Deus ex Machina make those things" because they
charge shocking amounts of money for fairly tatty bitsas) I don't
mind tatty bitsas, what else is the Yam? But I do mind paying a lot
    for badly done ones.)

How about a Suzuki DRZ400SM super moto?

    Something like this?

They are a lot less serious than the KTMs and similar and parts are easy
    to get.

Looks good. Still need to be lowered I expect but that can be done.

There is one minor problem.... "FUEL CAPACITY 10 litres" That will
be a problem with all motards though. It's 4l more than the Yam has
and I could get 100km out of that before reserve so might be OK.

(One of the problems of the modern era... cars get better mileage so
    servos are further apart!)

I guess I need to wander around bike shops over the next little while
    investigating...

I see one of the Parramatta bike shops has imported some RVF400s.
Probably too racerep for me, but might have a look anyway.

There are a multitude of after market tanks available for the off road
version of the DRZ400, the frame & tank mounts are the same and they'd
    fit straight on.

Not sure if the seat on the road version would get in the way or not but
you could surely fit a seat meant for the dirt version if it did.

There are comfy aftermarket seats available too.

There are tanks up to about 30 litres although 20 would probably do.

My short run on Johnnie-5's RVF400 was a real joy! The 'bars were too low
for me but I'm sure I could've come up with a fix if I owned it.
'90s Hondas seem to have a lot of electrical problem but I'm sure that
wouldn't be too much of a hassle to someone who can read a circuit diagram
and use a multimeter (and I'm sure there's heaps of on-line help to be
    found).

    Get thee behind me Satan!

Besides I know what happens with two strokes! It usually involves
loud noises and various varieties of expensive silence. SOme
involving parts and some involving bods in blue.

(For a minute there I thought you would suggest a Z"50". But it does
rather have a problem with the transport sections...)

Actually, being slightly serious, why not get a reasonably cheap Virago
    250?

You could really piss off a lot of people riding one of those properly. ;-)

And they are HUUUGE amounts of fun! (At least for the shortish time I rode
    one anyway).

RD350. It doesn't need to make sense. And think of how much fun you'll
    have finding a good one!

I noticed that... IT's the CBR250RR scam again really.

But then I don't *want* a litre sportbike, so being able to buy one
    cheaply isn't relevant.

I'm leaning motard wise, so have to go look for some I can sit on. I
have seen a lowered KTM, but the rider was still taller than I am...

    Have you considered an SV650.
Lots around at reasonable prices and very much a fun bike

  20. Amen. Sydney cops hate strokers. Well they did 20 years ago. My NS400R
created havoc. I have to assume it can only have got worse. I doubt it
    has got better.
