.... then the filling of the new battery with dilute sulphuric acid[1]
hasn't quite gone according to the script.

I presume gloves and goggles would be sensible.

Then it's just a simple job of turning the Wing around and parking it
in the garage nose-first so I can take the back end to bits.

Should be fun, with no brakes.

[1] 4 litres arrived at work today. I only need 1.5 litres for the
battery. Any suggestions for the rest?

    "thieving"?

Cost me a tenner, it did.

400ml bottles - £1.70 each, or 10 for a tenner. Next day delivery.

    Ho yuss, *very* sensible.

Acid seems to be used a lot in the manufacture of explosives, although I
am sure that is mostly nitric they are talking about.

    I don't think so.

Oddly, and rather unpleasantly, my guts have been in turmoil since
last weekend. Rusty water type syndrome. Last night, I consumed
sufficient beer to float a battleship, ate three large pasties from
that stall by Liverpool St station[1], and this morning, I'm back to
    normal.

    Odd.
    Er. No.

Herself has decreed that we're dieting from Monday 1st.

[1] Very good they were, too. Variety of flavours. About two and a
half quid each, which sounds a bit steep in the cold light of a sober
dawn, but reasonable at closing time.

Goggles definitely, gloves less important. If you get any on your skin,
    rinse with plenty of water.
Absolutely excellent as a soldering pickle, so I'll take it off your
hands if we can arrange a suitable delivery method.

  13. Let me get this right. 1.5 litres would have cost
you £6.80, but you bought 4 litres because they only
cost £1 a bottle. So you now have 2.5 litres you don't
    want that cost you £3.20.

    Just checking, like.

Not at all. Having fluxed and soldered the joint, you need to get the
flux off (it being corrosive, you see), you do this by dunking the item
(while still warm) in a dilute acid solution. This is known as "pickle".

Then you rinse it in water.

This is, of course, for silver soldering, not your poofy soft soldering
