    Hey, How's everyone.

I would like to know what voltage reading there should be on the primary of
the ignition coil on this KLR600.
Still can't get any spark from the mother, getting about 1v at the primary.
i thought this would be too low but a guy helping me
said his was 1.5 to 2 v on his 650. 84 KLR600a, no battery (looks like it
doesn't need one for spark) Specs say .17 - .25 ohm and my meter says .3-.4.
Not sure how critical that has to be. Also, can i pulse a voltage into the
primary with an ac power supply? First i need to know if the primary is at
    its right voltage.

    Thanks

Well, it's going to depend if it's firing right then ... you'll
probably not be able to measure things like ignition systems with
    a normal multimeter.
What kind of ignition system is it? Got a wiring diagram handy?

Well, it's a CDI type, I have the sparkplug out and i believe it's an auto
decompression inside the motor. kicking like mad i get approx 15vac from the
source coil going to the CDI. When i plug them into the CDI they drop to
approx 5v, no reg/rectifier, it's shot. not sure if i should see anything on
the analogue meter from the pickup coil or not, nothing to be seen anyway.
the resistances from the source coil, pickup coil, CDI and ignition coil are
all in spec APART FROM ignition coil primary, states .17-.25 ohms but my
digital meter says .3-.4, CDI box has one reading, range is like 30-150 or
something and mine reads 28. Don't know if that is reasonable. From what i
have found the test readings vary from unit to unit and are quite
unreliable. there are no opens or shorts in any of the wiring according to
my meter. i'm getting around 1-2vac on ignition coil primary disconnected
from coil, on my 84 XLX 250 i get around 7vac and Brad (the guy helping me)
messaged me today saying he activated the decomp on his bike and kicked like
mad and is now getting around 7v on his too. So looks like the 600 is down a
    few volts.

    Thanks Sharkey....

Perhaps if you have access to a storage scope ? should indicate if the
pulse is correct and wide enough
