I have a coil shorting out on the SOC and need to replace it.

No-one has a listing for the part - I've phoned a couple of local motor
    factors to check.

My plan was to grab a coil of the right size from the shelf at Halfords,
but this coil doesn't have a voltage rating on it, and it's labelled a
    Bosch 'TCI' coil.

Does anyone know anything about coils on TCI ignition systems? - a quick
google reveals that many bikes use such a system.

I'm wondering if my plan is sound, or if I'll just blow the TCI module.

The Bosch TCI (Transistor Controlled Ignition) is basically an electronic
'switch' replacing points. As it's not a CDI system you should be able to
use a standard 12V coil. 80's Cavalier, Sierra, BMWs and *many* others all
    used this system.

Went to the local breakers shop and they handed me a coil from a Seat
Ibiza. Identical to the one I took off the 75. All fitted and working
    now.
