U know, I have heard this argument lots of times and on the surface maybe it
is duplicate, but... I don't no many sex offenders that would dob them selfs
in, so the checks are good, even if u reckon they are not.

Exactly how many sex offenders do you know? And how did you get to
    know them?

One of the weaknesses of these types of 'protection' schemes is that for
some of those years he may not have known either...

Yeah, that is the point. They don't dob them selfs in, so u wouldn't no who
they are. I am glad u agree with the checks.

I agree somewhat with checks but not with multiple checks. Even
initial checks are probably just window-dressing to make people feel
safe, without providing any real safety.

That was sorta my point re the 15 year acquaintance of Tim... (how far into
the 15 years did the offences start?) These checks only prevent convicted
persons from getting certain types of job. They don't in any way do
anything to protect kids from people who are about to offend for the first
time, or who have never been convicted. Diligent monitoring and supervision
of children by yourself and / or mulriple persons is the best way to protect
kids - never let them alone with someone who might offend - not allowing for
the reports that the highest % of offenders are relatives of the victim.

they need 2 b multiple as things & people change
so how you gunna get a job and move on in life if u r always looking after
    ur kids?
how do u no who is gonna offend? Where did u get these facts from? Victims
also offend, does that mean u should look at thos rels 2?

I think you can get too paranoid about protecting your children. When
I was a little younger, and Johno was merely old, We were pretty much
left to our own devices in our free time. Saturday we either all had
friends over or went to their places. Where-ever you happened to be at
noon you were fed lunch. We needed to be home for dinner. No-one asked
where we had been orr what we did. And we only rarely got into
trouble. Hell, we'd go swimming in the local river and we'd made a
canoe from a folded sheet of roof metal and a few screws. Required a
second crew member to bail at all times but we had a great time.

You really can't stop kids being on good terms with their aunts,
    uncles, or grandparents.

If more kids ate mud early in life they wouldn't be allergic to every
    bloody thing under the sun.
