  2. It's a TOG bikemobile - it'll only go 53 feet (or whatever distance they
    are famed for failing within).

I thought you were supposed to selling stuff anyway?

Why not get the number for your local Ducati dealer added to your BT friends
and family list and phone him every day and ask, "Is my bike working yet?"

There you go; all of the thrill of ownership at a fraction of the cost.

Well, the plan is that I'm selling some of my stuff to make enough
space in my garage for another silly Italian classic.

However, a 900SS wasn't on the cards - more of a case of 'buy it while
    it's cheap'.

Timo Geusch emerged from their own little world to say
    ^^^^^^
could this phrase have something to do with that:

    "service history is spotty"

I wouldn't even dream of trying to stop you... think of all the comedy
    you'll provide for us :)

More seriously, though, I've read the 750SS is the one to have, and
having ridden TOG's I can see why. I want one, but not just yet, need a
new car first after fairly severely damaging my steering rack running
over a rear silencer at 50-ish mph the other morning.

That, and the fact that the slab-sided SSs generally aren't worth a
    lot of money.

Plus, that bike's been used - check the mileage. A lot of people still
think that low mileage is good, but I'm with TOG on that - aircooled
    Ducs want to be used.

  8. The Timo fanfare, which explains why none of his vehicles actually
functions for more than 10 miles.

    Oops. Which car?

Heh. Remember Lozzo saying that my Bimota was the most reliable bike I
owned? I'm currently wondering if I can pull off the same trick with a
    Duc. Fat chance, I know...

Exactly. It's no co-incidence that the motoring tight-wads around
here (and in uk.rec.cars.misc) are the ones whose vehicles break down
    all the time.

....and if it's spent most of those three years chained up outside the house,
even if it has been under a cover? I'd ask exactly what the "tuned" engine
    means, too.

Depends what you can get it for. If he can get it for a grand or not
much more (say 1500 tops), it's worth a try. After all, if it goes
terminally bang, you can always flog the desirable bits (almost
everything except fopr the engine) on Fleabay.

I mean, 750SS owners like me are always looking for the alloy swingers
from 900s, not to mention the better (ie: more adjustable) forks.

Well, that was one reason why I was asking if there was anybody near
Poole who'd give it a look over. The seller states that he simply
didn't reset the date on the camera in one of his Q&A sessions and we
all know that all ebay sellers are 110% honest, right?
