Saved to disc, so I told her to save to another disc as well and not to delete them from her laptop until I've seen her later this month when she comes over. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
Super. It's worth having a shortcut to something like Recuva on your desktop which can be hit immediately you discover you've made a booboo.
It was the infrastructure, or lack of it, that got me. The roads are still shit, unless you're on one of the 'Pope's roads'. They know how to lay them, they just can't be arsed to do it properly. It rained heavily twice while I was there and flooded really badly. In Bugibba it was almost like there were no drains at all and nearly had the front wheel washed from under me a few times before I got to the main road - I rode out of there towards St Julians/Sliema through about a foot of muddy water coing off the hills all the way down the coast road. It's not like this was a rare occurence, it rains a fair bit through the latter part of the year and this happens every time, so they know what to expect and what they can do about it, but they do **** all. However, they have a great telephone system and just about every home has high speed broadband, so at least they have their priorities right <sigh> -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
Lozzo wibbled forthrightly: A few years ago, they worked out that it'd cost about 20m lira (IIRC) to redo all the roads on the islands. Christ knows why theu haven't put the time and effort into doing it as 20m is still small fish for the place. Heheh. I look at the Times (of Malta) website every so often and when I see the vids or the discussions, I really think to myself, "Haven't you got anything more serious to think about or do?". Priorities are not the name of the game over there.
Fair enough. -- Catman MIB#14 SKoGA#6 TEAR#4 BOTAFOF#38 Apostle#21 COSOC#3 Tyger, Tyger Burning Bright (Remove rust to reply) 116 Giulietta 3.0l Sprint 1.7 GTV TS GT 3.2 V6 Triumph Sprint ST 1050: It's blue, see. #www.cuore-sportivo.co.uk
When Linda and I went at the end of 1990, it rained on the way back from Dingli Cliffs, and the water running down the road came over the bonnet of the Fiesta we'd hired.
Been considering that, still not done it yet. Home PC, portable HD, work laptop, Lab PC[1] and usually FB & Photobucket. [1] About 20 miles from home so hopefully it's only WMD and large meteors I need to worry about.
No disrespect but if I were her, I'd be telling you to **** off if you got even mildly stroppy with me over something like this given it was your choice to entrust your data to someone else without backing it up first? Aside from anything else, her laptop could have been nicked / been hit with a virus in the meantime since you left. Take more memory cards on a trip / upload to something like Flickr at the time you clear a memory card off so you've got an 'access anywhere, can't be lost / pinched' back up, if you've got access to the net.
These are my holiday snaps from a trip across Europe I had been meaning to do for 32 years. I'll get as fucking arsey as I like about it when I'd been talked into d/loading them to her laptop and promised they'll be safe their until they get saved to disc (which was meant to be done by her before I left 7 days later, but wasn't). She assured me they'd be fine on there and that we could use the one SD card I had on me to upload the Garmin maps to. As it turned out the cunting Garmin maps wouldn't work on my Zumo 550 anyway, so the whole exercise was a waste of time anyway. I'm highly unlikely to do that trip again, so these photos mean quite a bit to me, and she knows that too. Luckily it appears they are all safe. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
Very important to you, and rightly so... which is yet another reason why you shouldn't expect to rely on others for things like things like this?
JackH wrote: Unfortunately I had very little choice at the time, and was assured they'd be safe. I suppose I should have borrowed her laptop to upload them to a new flickr page, but was a bit rushed and wanted to get booked into my hotel and have a shower, as I'd been stuck on a ferry for 40 hours with no change of clothes or proper washing facilities. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
Fair enough. You putting them up on Flickr once you eventually get them off her - in fact is she too technically challenged to do that for you now anyway?
I will be opening a new flickr account specially, and dumping the lot on there when I get them. I can't trust her to do it for me. When they are up I'll post a link, but it occurred to me that as I was travelling alone virtually all the photos are of the sights and the bike, there are very few with me in them. -- Lozzo Versys 650 Inter-Continental Hyperbolistic Missile , CBR600F-W racebike in the making, TS250C, RD400F (somewhere) BMW E46 318iSE (it's a car, not one of those 2-wheeled pieces of shite they churn out)
Hell, if you want to see 3rd world roads, come to California. A fucking disgrace for what would be the 9th richest country in the world.
Aw, c'mon. You can't get tours of movie star's homes in Europe. And you don't have to learn a furrin language when you bring your mon^h^h^h come here. Well, much. And petrol is much cheaper here. So is food - even the edible stuff.
Will they take full size pictures? By which I mean that don't perform any compression on the images you upload?
AFAIK, Dropbox etc. just store files of any format and don't alter them at all. Flickr on the otherhand will only let you retrieve lower res pictures on the freebie accounts. I just discovered adrive lets you store up to 50Gb online for free - has anyone used them? Most of the others seem to have a 2Gb limit.
