To Spain that is, Via Paris, Millau bridge, Beziers, Costa Brava coast
road to Barcelona, and god knows after that, except that I'm coming
back Santander - Portsmouth, and I've never done that route before.

Have a good TOG tour in Pithiviers, Don't: fall off, get nicked, get
run over, frighten the locals.

Do drink a lot !

The coast road is nice down to Cap de Creus (Cadaques, Port de la Selva...)
and shite south of it. Too many villages to cross. Too many traffic lights.

I'd suggest doing Cap de Creus and then manage to get to Figueres and Olot.

From there you can

- reach Barcelona in one hour via C37 (new Bracons tunnel, avoid old maps)
and C17.

or

- have some fun: Olot-Vic by C153, then Vic-Arenys de Mar, then Barcelona.
