There's one significant difference, which is why people are more sympathetic to Palestinians than Israelis. Israeli attacks are organised and officially approved by the state and therefore represent the aggression/heavy-handed defence tactics of an entire nation against a far more defenseless group of people. Suicide bombers are perceived as individuals, either desperate or fundamentalist enough, or both, trying to bring the fight in your turf. You may argue that Hamas is a bunch of fundies who are actually in charge, but you are not being attacked by an organised army. Even the rocket attacks are considered guerrilla actions against one of the most militarised nations on earth. No, I most definitely don't approve of them (only attacks against military targets are ok in my book) and no, I don't have a solution. You got yourselves pretty much in a situation of "damned if you do, damned if you don't". I generally think that you deserve each other as neighbours, but I'll go for the underdog. On a different note, your passion regarding this issue is almost as misplaced here as those "Have you met the truth of the prophet?" spams. There is, but not the difference you're thinking of. All else being equal, I reckon the Jews and Arabs are generally subject to equal amounts of dislike from "neutrals". However there are many fewer Jews, so people are less intimidated by them, hence more likely to take anger out on them. Look at all the appeasement of fundamentalist Islam here in the UK, they get away with all sorts, because Middle England is scared of the possible repercussions. Notwithstanding the fact that Des is very annoying indeed (although I'm not sure he is a troll per se), what is this, rose-tinted glasses? I'm pretty sure that many Palestinians are quite happy for the Israeli civilians to get blown up, there's always that joyous rioting on the news, shots being fired into the air etc. There's indoctrination from school age onwards, and it's all rather sad. Even the Irish seem to be getting on pretty well these days, but then they don't have that Middle Eastern mentality which I'm not convinced we really understand in Middle England. Or just people with primitive, medieval values. Rose-tinted. They are fucking organised, by all accounts. A very noble attitude, but there is no correlation between "underdog", and "in the right".
