Impact Wrench

  1. Aldi are selling a 12V 120W rattler gun next Thursday for £16.
Is this likely to be any good?

    Down-side for me is that it's 12V and I don't have a car -- I'd
need to get their £25 "power station" as well, although the upside of
that is it could be useful with Black Kat, who usually flattens the battery
before starting after she's been standing a while...

The fact that its only 120W and costs £16 should tell you quite a lot.
I guess its likely to be one of those things that you will use a couple
of times, and find its crap, and then never use again!

You can get very high quality battery powered nut guns (Snap On do
several), but these are very expensive and not really worth it for
    occasional use.

Best idea if you are looking at this sort of thing for use in home
workshop or garage, is to get hold of a small 240v compressor, with
enough CFM to power small air tools, then you will have a wide choice
of inexpensive tools which will be excellent for occasional home use.

My dad bought from Lidl, I think. It does the job and hasn't
failed in the year or so he's had it. It's been good enough for
the motors, and even for nuts that have been put on when
the cars been "in" somewhere, whereby the cars up on a ramp
and nuts are tightened by a heavy bloke swinging on a 3 foot
bar that you'd never get off by hand at the side of the road....

Hmm. 120W? A hair dryer pulls 1500W for about half that price. Go for the
hair dryer and melt the bits off.

Looks right enough to me. Although I've seen jump-start chargers for 15 quid
    at Autojumbles.
Still with Aldi, you've got a come-back if its shite.
The compressor/impact gun would be a better idea, but thats going to cost a
couple of wallets more than 41 quid.
    Go for it, Ivan.
I think I'll have a look at the "power station" myself...

I've bought a shed-full of cheap power tools from Netto over the last couple
    of years.
They've all been great. (I'd assume that Aldi/Lidl/Netto get the stuff from
    similar sources)
It started with an offer for an 850W SDS Drill (Kango kind of thing) for 30
    quid.
The thought was that, if it only lasts for three jobs, its cost less than
    hiring one three times.
Its done /a lot more/ than three jobs and still going strong.
Then there's the router, the circular saw, the jig saw, the spray gun etc
and THE ANGLE GRINDER (there had to be one somewhere!!)
    Totally brilliant!
I think I'm going to get me a PowerG t-shirt....
