In the name of increasing road safety

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Miles Reading, Nov 17, 2003.

  1. A mate of mine has just got an extra 3 points for doing 34 in a 30
limit. The non-revenue related Gatso's in question are in Tilehurst,
    Reading.

A police spokesman said that they were also on the lookout for an
accident blackspot that they can place next to the camera's, however
so far there enquiries had drawn a blank.

The local motto on the police vehicles is "reducing crime, disorder
and fear" - What with gatso's and "road safety vans"........ **** OFF!

    It isn't. IIRC it's 10% plus 2 mph for a nick. Therefore 10% + 1 is
    legal.

    In this case 34mph is within 10%+2 (30+3+2 = 35)

I do recall mention of some cowboys dropping it to 10%+1, but on the
other hand, wibble flip dibble doo.

strictly speaking anything over the limit is a nick as far as I
understand ... the 10% + whatever is only a recommendation which many
    forces are increasingly ignoring [1]

[1] in the interests of road safety of course

  6. Which road(s)? My youngest sister lives in Tilehurst, so a warning to be
extra vigilant might be in order.

I thought that the 10% was because of manufacturers being allowed to make
speedos that were that much incorrect?
Mind you they tend to make them overread if anything......

I used to think that but recently I've read in the local rags of a
couple of people being done for 32 in a 30 etc so north Wales plod has
obviously decided to take Brunstroms zero tolereance to another level
    ....

25 in a 30 is the only way I can see to avoid the chance of a booking?

I would so love to alter our Reading plods motto to
    "Inducing Crime, Dissorder And Fear"...

The problem is doing it without getting caught... :)

What kind of maths do they teach in wales?

    30 sheeps - 10% of 30 sheeps is 27 sheeps, not 25.

Police forces arent ignoring it - they are sticking to the ACPO
guidelines. Council highways enforcements arent bound by the
guidelines though so they are ignoring them.
