This time a bit more sinister.

Having a few minutes to spare I wasted some more of their
time (why do I keep getting these calls?)

Same MO - get to Event Viewer, look in Applications, see
all the red crosses, etc. etc.

This time the punchline was a Little more sinister, taking
me to logmein123.com and giving me the authorisation code

  2. I get them at least once a week. I love it. I ask them questions like
which computer is giving the error I have 4 going here and then ask them
if they know my ip address. Hours of fun.

    <confused>

Do we have to go to logmein & stick that code in to see what the
    punchline is?

I'd guess it just tries to download something when you do .. ;)

My Bro did this a few weeks ago, completely hosed his system.

Can't understand why they do this, shirley they'd be more
effective/productive downloading a trojan or similar to 'use' rather
than just crashing computers. or are they just mongs who can't
    _really_ code?

  6. They do this to sucker in mongs who don't know how PCs work, to finagle
money out of them and leave them with an unusable system. I have had
calls like this twice and the first guy who called me ended up shouting
at ME to get this software from him because my PC was at risk. Yeah, right.

Second time, they called claiming to be BT Technical support and not
being in the mood for an argument, I just said I don't have a BT line
    and she hung up.

This is a scam, obviously and if you can, hunt down the perps and report
them to the police. Srsly. I shudder to think how many dumbasses without
a micron of computer sense have given these bastards not only control of
their PC (logmein) but their money, too.

    It makes me very angry.

  7. It is nearly always on a weekday between 9am and 5pm. They always claim
to be microsoft. Another favorite is asking them to hang on a tick and
leaving the phone next to the telly for 1/2 an hour. I figure the more
time I spend winding them up for my own small amusement is time they
aren't scamming some granny out of her credit card number.

I resorted to extreme profanities I'm afraid.. seems to have worked
    though.
They were all like 'I'm calling from Windows' and ' this is the help
    desk' WTF ?
