info on Aprilia RS125 please

My son has a Aprilia RS125 Y reg which is playing up, the problem
sounds to be either the spark plug, plug cap or ignition lead.
Im going to see him tomorrow and will take the parts to fit.

The plug is a BR10EG - should find one easy enough (hopefully at
Halfords)
I have asked him if there are any markings on the NGK plug cap, he
cant find any.

Does anyone know which plug cover its likely to be?

 

Just about any plug cap will do.

 

From memory they tend to be pretty generic, with the angle being the
main thing that's different.

What are the symptoms with the bike?

 

The symptoms are, starts but intermittent, can start and run then when
he stops sometimes it wont start.
He says that when pulling the spark plug cover off it feels loose and
there is duck tape around the lead near the cover.
He also says its been more a problem since the local council have put
speed bumps on his street.

As am going over to see him tomorrow have decided that the cheapest
and simplest option would be to replace the plug and cap and hope
there is nothing more sinister.

He knows nothing about bikes but has had it in to an aprilia dealer
who have replaced the battery and charged him an arm and one leg - it
suprises me that they didnt replace the plug and cap, especially as
its wrapped with duck tape!!!

 

It's a two-stroke....

I really doubt this is part of the problem.

Good idea.

If a new plug and cap don't solve the problem, be prepared for some
very, very big bills.

Ok down at my sons.
Replaced the sparkplug and cap, got a good spark.
There is another problem, the starter only catches then whirres (not
sure of spelling)
Fuel seems to be getting through.
My son says he has his battery on charge every night and sometimes it
does fire but not every time.

Any ideas?

 

See what problems the LHC has caused even before it's powered-up?

 

Problem was the starter motor!!
