Injury

In January my R6 decided to do a little dance on me as I accelerated away
one evening as I left work (an industrial estate and I hit a nice patch of
diesel), the bike flipped out from underneath me and bounced on top of me as
    I tried to hold on.

I got up but had to go to hospital with what I thought was a broken
    collarbone, but luckily it wasn't.
I also had severe bruising on the top of my left thigh.

A few weeks later after all the bruising had gone I went to see the doctor
because my leg was tingly to the touch, it felt all sort of spongy too. the
doctor was very blasé saying it would just heal by itself.

Now, 8 months later my leg still feels tingly to the touch and I can't see
the point going to my doctors to be told it will be OK.

Has anyone had a similar injury? Did it get better on its own or did it need
    medical care?

My R6 was written off, I'd caused £4,200 worth of damage by dropping it at
    30mph!

    Thanks

I'd either go and see a physio, or go back to the GP. Could be
anything, but 8 months is a long time. Tingly often means nerves.

You've waited 8 months before admitting that the problem's still there?
You, sir, are a real man. Also fucking stupid, too, of course, but most
    real men are.

    Go get it checked out.

    I liked my R6!
I did want an R1, but the insurance quote made me reconsider!!

I did get offered £600 more from the insurance company than I'd paid for it
    14 months previous.

With hindsight it could easily be suggested that they were right weren't
they? Which is a fucking sight more than you are by not adjusting your
software to snip out fully compliant sigs. Go read the ukrm ffaq,
    there's a good chap.

    So what did you buy?

My, this is going to get confusing. Two lurkers called Chris.
Yes, kind of. I landed smack on my major trochcanter [1] after parking a
bike into the side of a car at speed. After the tennis-ball sized lump
went, it did take ages for the tenderness to go (8-9 months?) but after
a year it seems to have more or less sorted itself out.

    However....

I never experienced tingling. Tingling is a Bad Thing, especially if it
carries on for any length of time. There are a bunch of nerves going
through that area, so you may have damaged those somehow. In addition
there's a blood supply to the bone -

True story time (I've actually met the guy) - a martial arts instructor
was competing, screwed up and got kicked quite heavily in the hip.
Thought nothing of it. At least not until the neck of the femur
collapsed several months later. A microfracture had disrupted the blood
supply to the bone and killed it. He now has a hip replacement.

So I'll add to the other guys who have said *get checked out*!

Oh, and commiserations. Look on it as [enter your preferred deity here]
telling you that it's time to get a new bike.... :)

[1] The big lump at the top of your femur [2]
    [2] upper leg bone [3]
[3] Hey, I used to write medical software for templating hip
replacements, OK? What's the point in learning these things if you can't
    show off occasionally ;-)

With hindsight I'd have taken my cage that frosty morning
Where is the ffaq? I don't think Outlook Express snips compliant sigs.
I have no other newsreader I can use and can't download and use one at work
Nothing yet, the other half now has her excuse after 15 years of biking that
    they can be dangerous!

Those R6s we rode at Silverstone last year were injected and, I have to say,
    absolutely awesome for a 600.

I didn't find them vibey and the low-down pull was greatly improved on
Kate's 2000-model carbed version... And that's not too bad - I filled the
Daytona and R6 up yesterday at the local station, just outside the village.
In a completely non-scientific way I nailed them both for an equal
(short)distance back towards the village and noted the speed I hit before
slowing. The Daytona hit about 70-75mph. The R6 got to 145kmh (about
90mph) in the same distance....... Even allowing for the non-scientific
nature of the test, and the R6 speedo being about 6-7% out due to the
lowered gearing[1], it shows how well the R6 spins up, if nowt else...

    Dave

[1] The Daytona runs a similar lowering of gearing but the speedo takes it's
reading from the front wheel. The R6 goes from the gearbox sprocket so now
    overreads....

Depending on how localised this is, it could be the after-effect of a
haematoma. This is basically a significant bleed inside a muscle which
leads to a pocket of blood building up and causing massive swelling.
Untreated, this can give rise to lots of nasty complications, as the
    blood goes bad.

I had a bad one on one hip some years ago, but didn't know I should
get it treated (drained) so the bruising took months to go away and
there's still a very small slightly dead (==tingly?) area.

Of course, if it's a more general tingling, then disgregard all of the
    above.
