It's been done before, & the reason usually given is what happens if
the handbrake fails & the car trundles off down a hill & smashes into a
    Veyron?

We covered this ages ago. Third party liability. Think builders' skips.

I'd be interested in this when you get back. Need any help with the
"couple of things doing to it"?

I recall, and didn't really understand it then
What about builders' skips? Do they need insurance too?

Really? Crikey, wish I'd known that!

If I need a plan B, I'll be in touch.

Ah, ok. Perhaps best if you drop me an email (so I don't forget), and
then I'll give you first refusal.
Well, it's going to my tame garage, who did the MOT last year. It was
reckon to be half a days work or thereabouts, and I'm happy for them
to do it cos I know they won't take the piss. Thanks anyway.

Yes, really! It's horrible to drive mind, & hasn't got an MoT, & you
wouldn't want to risk it without breakdown cover, but you're welcome to
it if you want to take the risk.

Check if your CIHAGM cover extends to the IOM. Most don't cover use outside
    the UK.

Ah. The legislative equivalent of that parental favourite - "because
    I said so".
Yes, I heard that on R4 this morning.
That was started by Austin over in the SOBs group.

I'd guess that it's more concerned with the question of how you get it
on and off the public street.

That 'nominal fee' might not be as nominal as you think. I've just
cancelled a policy after a couple of days, & the 'admin fee' was 35
fucking quid (20 for the broker & 15 for the insco). Then there's
another few quid on top for the pro-rata cover.
